I have been using Maplin since the 1980's. I used to get good customer service, but recently they have gone downhill.
I brought a laser from one of the stores, on inspecting it at home it looked in used condition and had a hand written label attached (looked like a returns label). It appeared to work until I tried controlling it with a DMX controller. I emailed Maplin technical support, twice, and never had a reply. I emailed the manufacturer directly and found the item was faulty.
Maplin refused to replace or refund the goods, instead they insist on sending it for testing which takes 14 days, then they would repair it. I brought it for a party in a weeks time, so 14 days was going to mean not using it for the purpose I purchased it for. I phoned trading standards who told me I should get a replacement or refund under the sales of goods act 1979. Maplin disagreed with this, I spoke to head office who would not budge on company policy. My wife went into the store while I was outside using my phone, and found staff joking about me to customers. Totally unprofessional.
I'm currently taking them to the small claims court. Avoid them!

Five weeks ago I phoned Maplin on their premium rate support phoneline to enquire about an apparent problem with a 2-way Bandridge Speaker switch, N44CK, bought online from them.
The Maplin website claims that '... the unit provides full amplifier circuitry protection maintaining the load at the amplifier at 4 Ohms ...' However, the product instruction leaflet states '... do not connect speakers with a nominal impedance less than 8ohm'. The Maplin FAQs says clearly that I can use the device wi ...- Read Guest's review (181 words)

My review here is not about delivery from Maplins Website but the service offered at Maplins Store, Oxford Road, Manchester.
I purchased a Moving Display Sign from this store and was offered a double deal on batteries which I accepted. When i got home I realised the batteries they had given me were the wrong size. I phoned the store and was told this was the battery size listed on computer and sorry for the mistake. I was advised to "call in anytime" and they will change them.
As it is I am a ...- Read AWG's review (241 words)

Looking for an external 1.5tb harddrive i came across the Maplin store in Barnsley. After initially being greeted by a pleasant young lady i wandered around for a few minutes, not seeing what i was looking for and, probably by the confused look on my face, one of the young lads who was just coming out of the office asked me if i was finding everything ok. After i asked him where the hard drives where, he asked me a set of questions to determine which product i needed. Came away with a free catal ...- Read LUFCMart's review (120 words)

I went into the Coventry (Gallagher Complex) shop wanting some car speakers. The three boxes on the shelf were somewhat tatty but as the itams were reduced I assumed that this was the reason for the price so I took the best of the lot and bought them. Having got them home I realised that they were unsuitable so tried to return them but was told that I couldn't return them because the box was tatty!!! I tried to point out that this was how I had purchased the item but it fell on deaf ears. Even w ...- Read zeus1958uk's review (251 words)

I visited the Maplin Electronics store and I had a query about connecting my Laptop to my television, thought it was just a matter of going in and given a cable basically, however the sales assistant asked me which connections were on my laptop and which were on my television also there was a possibility that the cable used would not carry audio so I may require two cables, i was unaware of connections and was asked if I could return with the manual for my television and the manual for my laptop ...- Read Guest's review (136 words)

I was on the hunt for a number of items on www.maplin.co.uk and when I searched for them I got a list of things I had no idea were related in anyway to what I was after. If this could be remedied it might stop visitors clicking away.
Vast amounts of products I've not seen since the days of Tandy and even Radio Shack appeared. My query email was answered within a matter of an hour or so hence gaining a sale else I'd have shopped elsewhere. This followed by speedy home delivery.

Maplin Electronics appears to be the only business in these hard times that have NOT passed on the VAT drop instead it seems they have increased there prices by 2.5% to compensate so they don't have to change their price tickets - not very good customer service.- Read Guest's review (101 words)

I experienced disappointing customer service from Maplin Electronics through emails which, if I received one, was usually about a week late.
Also an expensive customer 0870 phone number which kept me hanging on which I think is cheeky if you have not received a delivery or have faulty goods, to have to pay for them to sell to you.
In fact if I had not had to make a claim through Paypal it may never have happened as I expect most people give up on them.
I have received no apologies or anything a ...- Read Guest's review (133 words)

Useful if you are after an odd bit fast and you have a maplins shop locally. However if you're looking to buy online or quite a bit of stuff then I think it's normally not worth it as I find them more expensive compared to most places and don't have a very good return policy.
Like most places the staff can be good or bad depending on who you get and what shop you go to. I've asked them a questions via their website (all of which I never received a reply to) but the one time I used their website ...- Read Guest's review (138 words)

Bought a Pocket Surf2 gadget from Maplin during a day trip in London. With this gadget, you have to switch it on, and register and activate it, to actually see how it works. I did this and found I was not happy with the product. By then I was back home in Manchester.I took it back within the 14 day period, but the staff at the shop immediately started making reasons on the hoof not to accept it. First they whinged it wasn't bought in their store -so totally contradicting the first salesman who ...- Read Nash29's review (187 words and 2 comments)

For the last 3 years, I've found Maplin to be a good source of components from computer parts to home electronics. It is a good shop as long as there are no problems with the product. If a product is faulty, buyers should be aware of a less publicised 14-day refund condition which means it may take up to 14 days for you to get your money back if you return a faulty product. This is because they need their engineers to verify that fault and the engineers are only at the headquarters. This is not ...- Read abiowo's review (126 words and 1 comment)

I tried to return an external hard disk drive which did not function as expected. They stated that it could not be returned because it was a "memory" product, which it is not. If you really insist, they may send the new item to one of their engineers to check.- Read Guest's review (71 words and 1 comment)

I went to Maplin Electronics to buy simple common parts for electronics projects. That was 3 years ago when I did not have access to Internet. In so many instances, they do not have the most common parts, you go to the shop to buy an electrolityc cap and he tells you that they don't have it in stock.
On other times another guy was moaning because I ordered a bunch of simple diodes and transistors for my project and apparently to him going on the back and getting the parts for me was too hard ...- Read barrett's review (184 words)
