We have just returned from this hotel 08 10 08 overall it was a nice hotel apart from the couple of bad points I have listed. We were a bit disappointed with our room as on our arrival we asked if there was an upgrade available the reception told us all rooms were the same but in my opinion they are NOT. We were on the top floor of the main hotel with no balcony just a window that opened completely which I thought was really dangerous. We took our two youngest boys who are 10 and 13 and I... Overall my stay was great. One little point to make is the lifts, they get pretty congested at times because of the sheer number of people wanting to use them. This is because the staircase at the side of the hotel is used as an exit one. and you can't access it from the outside, unless someone leaves the door open. The female staff at the reception desk were very helpful. (read more)

Food was 95% of the same, not what you would expect to have when to pay to go half board in a 4*hotel. The bar staff were not friendly enough. I was not served for 15-25 minutes (not a one off).
Dinner food was cold sometimes. (read more)

I also experienced the food being cold at the buffet and after 5 days I had really had enough of the same type of food day after day. There is also an option to eat at the restaurant instead of the buffet - but the food was of poor quality. Staff are not particularly friendly and because I don't speak Spanish I struggled to get by.

Our flight was at 5am, which meant we had to leave our house at 2am in order to get to the Airport in plenty of time.

When we arrived at Salou airport I noticed on the reps clip board that the party number was listed at 3 and not 4 i.e. My 1 year old was not included on the booking numbers? Didn't think this would cause a problem?

We arrived at the Hotel around 9:45am to be told that check in was not until 3pm!

We visited Hotel El Paso, Universal Port Aventura Complex in June 2007, and were so impressed, came back and rebooked for the same week this year. When the kids are happy abroad then so are we. Last year we spent only £200 in spending money on top of our package price. The holiday was great value, the hotel was immaculate, as was the theme park and the water park. I would suggest everyone read the other reviews on this site. They are not gripes or moans but true statements about this resort.
It is not a bad resort, but it is NOT 4 star by English standards. I spent time reading the reviews before I left and took ear plugs, it was the BEST thing we did. The noise was unbelievable, and our visit was at low season. I eventually rigged up the balcony door with my belt so it would be open by half an inch at night to get some ventilation into the... I thought that the staff were very friendly, and the view was magnificent. I enjoyed the rooms, and the outside view. The place was very modern and up to date, and there was a lot for me and my friends to keep us entertained, from the beach to the internet cafe when the park was not open. However, there were a few bad points. A group of people were insisting of breaking the rules, and started to smoke in the corridors so it was quite unpleasent. We have been to Port Aventura three times and to be honest the jury is still out on this hotel. I think I can only basis my rating on whether or not I would recommend to close friends and if I am honest, no. On the basis of the food, which is such a big part of most people's holiday, I lost over half a stone as I ate so little. On reflection this seems a little unfair as there were so many good things and the hotel was beautiful. But it only had the potential to be excellent, such a shame,... (read more)

If you decide to go to Hotel El Paso, I would seriously not recommend going in September as you can tell that they are close to the end of the season because the rooms were filthy, from mould on the bathroom tiles, to god knows what kind of muck was wiped on the walls! Probably one the worst hotels I've stayed in but it is situated in one of the best locations to get to the park (less than 5 minutes walk). (read more)

I agree with this review because we have just returned after an Easter break and you can tell that the season hasn't started yet. Hot food is a huge problem, no queues and so food standing around and not adequately heated, pool shut and no sun beds. Still no fridges in the rooms. However the rooms were clean, I think they have had a major pre-season paint and decorate. Not 4*

Stayed in Hotel El paso May 2007. Hotel was nice enough, no way 4star, but OK. Disappointed with room, no kettle, no fridge. The grounds of the hotel were lovely and also no complaints about the pool. It was quite chilly in the evenings, gets very windy in May, on one occasion the evening entertainment was cancelled due to the weather.
My biggest complaint is the Queue! Two actually, at mealtimes and at the bar. We timed them, on one occasion we queued for 45 minutes to be sat down for food and 35 minutes at the bar for a round of drinks. Totally unacceptable for 4 star!. The food was OK, nothing amazing!
The holiday however was all for the children, who have absolutely no complaints, the theme park was fantastic and they had a wonderful time. I personally think the only thing that made the holiday good value for money was the free entry to the theme park. Would I go there again? Probably, yes.

Our coach dropped us off at the Hotel El Paso at 12 noon, we were told our rooms weren't ready and we'd have to wait until 3pm or later.
We had been up since 5am that morning so we were not pleased, especially as our child needed changing etc.

The Hotel El Paso in Salou is excellent! It was well worth the money. I went with my wife and grandson (aged 7) in May 2006 (12th - 19th), and we had the time of our lives. We have been to other theme type holidays e.g. Florida, and I can honestly say that this holiday was definitely on par with the good old U S of A.

El Rip Off
First, the good points - the hotel looks lovely, great attention has been paid to the aesthetics. This is a very large hotel but is set out as a main building and several annexes throughout the extensive grounds around the spectacular pool area, which avoids the block building appearance. You should note if that kind of thing bothers you, that topless sunbathing around the pool area was openly condoned on our visit.

This hotel was a real let-down. The week I went, in April, the weather was pretty bad and there wasn't ANYTHING to do. The pool wasn't heated and therefore, when there is bad weather, you can't go in it (unless you like freezing water). You also wouldn't want to go to the themepark in bad weather, but if you go on the days with sun there are hundreds of people there. Myself and my family were at the other Universal Hotel last year and with all the bad reviews that came out of that one we were suprised. We all had a great time. So we booked to go to Elpasa this time. We are going 2004 after just coming back from Orlando again. You cannot compare Spain Universal to Orlando, it is not on the same level and if you have stayed in the Disney and Universal hotels like we do every other year you would know that it would cost £5,000 for 2 adults and 2 teenage children compared to £2,000. We found the park good fun and the staff helpful and as for Salou its great to look round all those shops. Why not visit Barcelona stadium and its Zoo great day out or do what we did chill out and relax around the pool its a good cheap holiday and it's what you make it so please don't compare it to Orlando

Myself and my brother have just come back from this hotel and we thought it was brilliant. The theme park was excellent. Connor went on the Stampede and I, jamie fotheringham, went on the Dragon Khan 5 times. You had to be 1.30 in height for big rides and 1.10 or less for the rest. It is a big place and we went 5 times. Sometimes it was busy but it was still good. We had no problems with the passes and got on straight away. It was funny watching everyone's faces as we walked by with my 6.0 feet, 17 stone skinhead daddy. The waterpark is also great and you can go more than once, but they don't tell you that when you book. The park is open till 1900 in May and June and 0000 at the weekends only. Fireworks on weekend only too. The hotel has lots to do all day if you choose to stay at hotel, Shrek, Betty Boo, Woody Woodpecker, and the Pink Panther all walk about the hotel grounds. This is a great place for children of all ages. If you like kids running about screaming and shouting and taking over the place then come here. If you like peace and quiet then stay away cos all you will do is moan and put people off their family holiday. This place is for "FAMILIES" you have been warned. xxxxxxxxxxxx jamie and connor fotheringham, scotland, and daddy who worked his backside of to pay for it and all the screaming kids done his head in but he still loves us. I don't agree with the lady that went in April. I have just come back from El Paso, and yes, a lot of smoking does go on, but hey, there is your room to stay in!! My wife does not smoke and she had no problem with it. When it rains there is not a lot to do so next time I will take an umbrella so that I can carry on enjoying what I paid for! El Paso is brilliant and clean. Towels changed everyday and the bed was always made up for us. Food was excellent!!!! Well done Universal...beats a ten hour flight to America!
The staff were always helpful, especially the guest desk, hats off to them. I'm glad that I went! My daughter (9 Years old, only child) also made friends with other British kids and had a whale of a time! No problem with the park. You have to look for the express sign...normally near the exits of the rides!!!

What is this woman on. This is supposed to be an expert review??? It is obvious that this lady is so far up in the clouds that nothing or no one will every please her. It is obvious to anybody that if you go to a resort out of season, the weather may not be up to much and so of the attractions will be limited or closed. In future if you REALLY want a good time, try to afford going in peak season and see the difference. Course it's not the same as Orlando.
A TOTALLY POINTLESS REVIEW!!!

My husband, two kids and myself have just arrived home from the el Paso and had a fantastic time. The hotel is first class, staff are excellent, food is fantastic and the entertainment for the kids is great. Our son is only 4 years old and he is still going on about the hotel el Paso, so if it has made an impression on him at this young age it must be something. I would advise anyone to go there, ok it might be a bit more expensive than your normal hotels but I can assure you it is well worth the extra.

This is a strange review.
i have only just come back from the place last week. I had a great time.
I did not notice any smoking either - maybe this has been cleaned up.
