We have just returned from this hotel 08 10 08 overall it was a nice hotel apart from the couple of bad points I have listed. We were a bit disappointed with our room as on our arrival we asked if there was an upgrade available the reception told us all rooms were the same but in my opinion they are NOT. We were on the top floor of the main hotel with no balcony just a window that opened completely which I thought was really dangerous. We took our two youngest boys who are 10 and 13 and I... Overall my stay was great. One little point to make is the lifts, they get pretty congested at times because of the sheer number of people wanting to use them. This is because the staircase at the side of the hotel is used as an exit one. and you can't access it from the outside, unless someone leaves the door open. The female staff at the reception desk were very helpful. (read more)

Food was 95% of the same, not what you would expect to have when to pay to go half board in a 4*hotel. The bar staff were not friendly enough. I was not served for 15-25 minutes (not a one off).
Dinner food was cold sometimes. (read more)

Hotel was informative, clean, fabulous location, wonderful facilities. I would recommend anyone wanting to maximise their holiday with visits to Theme Park and the wonderful Caribe Water Park to stay at El Paso. Had no involvement with Rep, does not seem to be any requirement for a rep at this hotel. (read more)

Our flight was at 5am, which meant we had to leave our house at 2am in order to get to the Airport in plenty of time.
When we arrived at Salou airport I noticed on the reps clip board that the party number was listed at 3 and not 4 i.e. My 1 year old was not included on the booking numbers? Didn't think this would cause a problem?
We arrived at the Hotel around 9:45am to be told that check in was not until 3pm!
If I had to have know this when we were making our booking I would not have... (read more)

We visited Hotel El Paso, Universal Port Aventura Complex in June 2007, and were so impressed, came back and rebooked for the same week this year. When the kids are happy abroad then so are we. Last year we spent only £200 in spending money on top of our package price. The holiday was great value, the hotel was immaculate, as was the theme park and the water park. I would highly recommend this hotel (we did look round the other two at the resort but felt that this one was the most... (read more)

I would suggest everyone read the other reviews on this site. They are not gripes or moans but true statements about this resort.
It is not a bad resort, but it is NOT 4 star by English standards. I spent time reading the reviews before I left and took ear plugs, it was the BEST thing we did. The noise was unbelievable, and our visit was at low season. I eventually rigged up the balcony door with my belt so it would be open by half an inch at night to get some ventilation into the... I thought that the staff were very friendly, and the view was magnificent. I enjoyed the rooms, and the outside view. The place was very modern and up to date, and there was a lot for me and my friends to keep us entertained, from the beach to the internet cafe when the park was not open. However, there were a few bad points. A group of people were insisting of breaking the rules, and started to smoke in the corridors so it was quite unpleasent. When it came to the breakfast buffet, some of... (read more)

We have been to Port Aventura three times and to be honest the jury is still out on this hotel. I think I can only basis my rating on whether or not I would recommend to close friends and if I am honest, no. On the basis of the food, which is such a big part of most people's holiday, I lost over half a stone as I ate so little. On reflection this seems a little unfair as there were so many good things and the hotel was beautiful. But it only had the potential to be excellent, such a shame,... (read more)

Hotel El Paso is a great hotel, great holiday, wonderful gardens, swimming pool and Theme Park. Children are looked after by the children's club and Mini Disco is fantastic. Entertainment for all in the evening, very good groups booked - a must see!

If you decide to go to Hotel El Paso, I would seriously not recommend going in September as you can tell that they are close to the end of the season because the rooms were filthy, from mould on the bathroom tiles, to god knows what kind of muck was wiped on the walls! Probably one the worst hotels I've stayed in but it is situated in one of the best locations to get to the park (less than 5 minutes walk). (read more)

We think Hotel El Paso is a lovely place and you don't have to travel far to get to Salou or Cambrils. The theme park is just a short walk and also the water park. The courtesy bus was more reliable when we wanted to go back to the hotel from the beach club. We think the food was even better than in 2003 and everyone seemed to enjoy the pancakes for breakfast!! I wish that i had read the reviews before i booked. The staff at the hotel, cleaners and restaurant staff are 1st class very hard working people and i hope they get paid well. Its the management and holiday reps that let this complex down. Please, please, make FIRST CHOICE YOUR LAST CHOICE if booking. If you are going away for entertainment on an evening, save your brass and go to Butlins, its very repetitive as is the food at the hotel, and basically rubbish!! Park is open until... (read more)

This hotel was the best hotel I have stayed at for a long time. Reception staff were very helpful. Bar staff were very slow, part of this can be put down to language barrier, as it is not a hotel only for Brits.
Rooms were very clean and the maid made the bed every day. We had a cot in the room which fitted nicely between the wall and the bed. The room has a TV which has BBC1 and 2. We never watched the entertainment much as we were in the park until midnight every night!! We went HB.... (read more)

Our coach dropped us off at the Hotel El Paso at 12 noon, we were told our rooms weren't ready and we'd have to wait until 3pm or later.
We had been up since 5am that morning so we were not pleased, especially as our child needed changing etc.
We were told to leave our bags unattended in the lobby of the hotel, I refused and it wasn't until I complained to a porter that he told me he could take them and put them in a secure room for me.
The travel cot was in the middle of the room, so we... (read more)

First of all, let me say the El Paso is not a poor hotel........it's just nowhere near a 4* Rating - If you think Butlins before you go then you wont be disappointed. Here are some things which annoyed and pleased me during the stay! Try and visit the park during weekdays as all the locals descend on the place during the weekend - you will have lots of Spanish school trips in the week though. The service throughout the hotel is S-L-O-W, we were there in May and the wait by the bar was a good... (read more)

On arrival at the Hotel El Paso in Salou at 10am, we went to check in, and we were given information on the complex from reception staff, but we were told we could not get our room until 3pm, so we had to wait in the lounge reception area, (we could have gone to the poolside, but never had swimwear or towels as they were still in the suitcases, and we had nowhere to change).

The Hotel El Paso in Salou is excellent! It was well worth the money. I went with my wife and grandson (aged 7) in May 2006 (12th - 19th), and we had the time of our lives. We have been to other theme type holidays e.g. Florida, and I can honestly say that this holiday was definitely on par with the good old U S of A.
The one thing that will stay with us longest is the sheer determination of the children's entertainment team to make sure the kids enjoyed their stay at the El Paso. Where the... (read more)

We stayed at the Hotel El Paso on the Costa Doranda, and it was lovely. Clean rooms, friendly staff, clean dinning area with excellent choice of foods - taste and choose as much as you want, great variety of restaurants to choose from, and I highly recommend the buffet at the Merida Restaurant. The waitress service at the pool is exceptional. There were plenty of sunbeds to choose from, and there was no fighting over the sunbeds by the pool!!

We booked our holiday as a package through First Choice which was a first for me and not something I'd bother repeating, you really don't need them as everything is on hand and the Hotel El Paso staff are more than capable of dealing with any problems or queries.

Just back from a week at El Paso, and thought it was brilliant. We have two boys, aged 8 and 5, and they are just raving about it. The theme park is out of this world. The rides and shows are fabulous. We went there everyday. We used the courtesy train/bus for the 5 minute walk, most days (laziness of course). It was heaven at night to get the free transport back down to the hotel. The park was really something, my lads loved the sea quest interactive ride. We ended up going on that... (read more)

I just got back from Hotel El Paso on June 15. Overall the hotel was good but service was a bit slow. Salou offers lots for kids and Hotel El Pasos' location is ideal and with the unlimited Port Aventura express pass it's a great holiday for all.

I have just returned fropm the El Paso Hotel from a weeks holiday with my wife and two children - 2 & 8 years old.
We had a fantastic holiday, the accomodation was clean, the hotel grounds and pool were very good and kept in good order, the hotel is just a stones throw from both the Costa Caribe Water Park and Porta Ventura Theme Parks.

El Rip Off
First, the good points - the hotel looks lovely, great attention has been paid to the aesthetics. This is a very large hotel but is set out as a main building and several annexes throughout the extensive grounds around the spectacular pool area, which avoids the block building appearance. You should note if that kind of thing bothers you, that topless sunbathing around the pool area was openly condoned on our visit.
The staff are probably the nicest I've met in a hotel anywhere.... (read more)

Salou, Hotel El Paso, (Universal Port Aventura Complex) - Upon arriving, we were told where our room was and how to get there, how to use the key cards. The key card also gave you unlimited access to Universal Theme Park and the Costa Carib (water park). Check peak times, just in case, both of which were superb. This hotel was a real let-down. The week I went, in April, the weather was pretty bad and there wasn't ANYTHING to do. The pool wasn't heated and therefore, when there is bad weather, you can't go in it (unless you like freezing water). You also wouldn't want to go to the themepark in bad weather, but if you go on the days with sun there are hundreds of people there. This is a problem because, for one, when you stay at the hotels your room card is meant to be an express pass, to get past the... (read more)
