“Visited Camelot today with husband and two sons aged 5...”

written by on 15/08/2010

Visited Camelot today with husband and two sons aged 5 and 9 and had a great time. I fully expected the place to be heaving and queues horrendous, given it was a Sunday in the middle of the summer hols and the weather was beautiful. It was busy and some queues were a bit longer, but overall we had a fantastic day and went on whatever we wanted several times. The jousting was pretty good too and a welcome sit-down. I know you can't compare Camelot to Alton Towers, but if you have younger children, this is a good alternative, particularly if you get the BOGOF deal from the MoneySavingExpert website and take a picnic!
My only real criticism is the amount of fairground type stalls that the kids demand extra money for - I did get fed up having to say no!

Loved it everyone else loved it too. My aunt got a special discount so every price was halved. Knightmare is by far the best ride. Whirlwind is not far behind. Wimpys and the other failed food stalls werent great. Neither were the wasps but the jousting was fantastic. I definitely recommend this to families.

Had the buy 1 get 1 free vouchers (available online) so £11 each. Our party was 2 adults, a 10 year old and a thrill seeking 3 year old. We spent a very happy 5 hours there and only left to miss the traffic. There arent the huge scary rides but plenty of fun for the kids and brill family rides - log flume, rollercoasters etc. Differant areas to explore and the jousting to break it all up. Feels relaxing cause its not too big and very safe for the children. Will be going back in school holidays - fantastic!

We downloaded a voucher for buy one get one free off the visit lancashire website- bargain. We got there just after 11am on a saturday and was able to breeze onto the rides without queueing. I would not recommend this theme park for teenagers although some of the rides were very scary for small kids this was brilliant. The dining area was rubbish with very little choice . TAKE A PICNIC it is cheaper and not frowned upon at all. The gifts in the shop were cheap to buy e.g the infaltable hammer £2. Yes the decor is poor but the staff were all freindly and the show with jowsting was fabulous and professional. Even thinking of getting the season ticket as the price is £150 for a family of four minus the ticket price you pay on the day(keep your stubbs and go to reception for the form)

Went to Camelot today with my wife, 8 year old daughter and her friend.
We had 2 for 1 vouchers downloaded off the internet which would have cost us £44 for the group but when I got to the front of the queue someone had left £8 each vouchers so I only paid £32 for a FAMILY DAY OUT.

A coup;le of the rides were not working but on the whole it was fine.

written by Helen Bonner on 15/04/2010

8 of us aged between 6 and 45 spent a fantastic day at Camelot. Very little queing for rides. Some areas have had a lick of paint since last year, but there is still a little tired look about the place. The staff at Wimpy however all looked like school kids with no-one appearing to take charge. Although there were barely 6 people in the que, it still took over half an hour to get 2 kids meals, which came without the advertised toy. This was on a quiet day. Who knows what it will be like by the summer holidays?! Where else can you have a fun family day out for £11 per head? Go!!!! You won't be disappointed!!

Camelot is not as bad as people make out. We had 3 adults and an 18, 6, 4 and 13 month old. The place was clean with lots of litter pickers and the staff were cheerful. We all loved the jousting especially the middle 2. The rack wasnt working and whirlwind broke down but was quickly fixed. This has been my experience of other theme parks though.

The downsides were it's pretty expensive. We had buy one get one free for the six of us so it was £60 altogether. We had a picnic inside and all the tables were dirty, we had to clean it ourselves. The wasps were a nightmare, they followed you around and there were millions of them. The girls were frightened of them and we couldn't relax watching the jousting as they were everywhere. It needs sorting out.

I went to Camelot on a school trip so it was considerably cheaper! The staff looked perfectly fine to me and plenty of bins and people picking up litter.Unfortunately The Rack was not working but Excalibur 2 definately made up for that though as it was a fabulous thrilling ride!I wasn't aloud to go on the ferris wheel or the balloons without and adult and none of the teachers were around that area and i thought that was slightly unfair but obviously for our own safety.I am glad i took a pack lunch as food was quite expencive but not over the top.But overall i find Camelot a good theme park :D

I would recommend this theme park to anyone! This is the fifth year I have been and the novelty hasn't worn off! Some people have been saying that the staff are miserable, but I have found that at every single theme park I've been to. How can you expect them to be happy and smiley when they have to stand for hour after hour pressing buttons!!!! Great theme park!

Camelot is well-laid out and has good rides. Unfortunately it is filthy and staff are rude and miserable. However overall a good day out.

It was laid out well. It was easy to find the way around and had a great variety of rides for all ages. It could have had a few more modern/up-to-date rides. Overall, I love Camelot. It was a great experience and great fun!

Very enjoyable day for whole family. My 4 year old enjoyed the rides and the jousting tournament. We had a three day pass via the park hall hotel and enjoyed every visit. Will definitely return in the near future.

An excellent day out for all the family. Very good VFM. Staff helpful and welcoming and a good selection of rides for our girls (3& 4) and lots of older children too. Clean and not overpriced on-site like many other theme parks I have previously visited. All in all we will be back very soon. On-site food more reasonable than other theme parks I have visited. Staff pleasant and got a warm welcome on arrival. Direction signage could be better. Could dry the seats after rain the night before.

“After hearing about the new ride at Camelot my friends...”

★★★★★

written by Sally2007 on 21/08/2007

After hearing about the new ride at Camelot my friends and I decided to go this weekend and see what it was like.

For those few who do not know what Camelot is I will give you a very brief overview:

Camelot is a great theme park located near Chorley in Lancashire (North West England). It is a themed amusement park (a land of magic and great knights). They have rides for everyone from toddler to parents as well as indoor activities and a working farm. It is close to the M61 (leave at Junction 8) and is signposted, so easy to find.

We got to Camelot for 10am (opening time), giving us plenty of time to go on all of the rides. It was free to park and cost £18 each to enter.

The park is separated into 5 different sections: Land of the Brave, Merlin's Playland, King's Realm, Knight's Valley, and Squire Bumpkins Friendly Park.

We thought that the new ride Knightmare would be pretty busy later on in the day and so headed there first. We had read about this ride before going to the park and so were pretty excited about it. Advertised to pull more g force than any other ride in the UK, to be one of only 2 of its kind in the world, and to be over 2 minutes long we were all ready to see if it lived up to the hype. I have to say it did not disappoint - with 6 dips and twists and speeds of over 40mph it was an exceptional ride. I would give this ride 10 out of 10.

Following Knightmare we had caught the high speed, fast ride bug and so headed off to Excalibur 2. This was a fantastic white knuckle ride. It is really fast and goes pretty high, probably not a ride for the faint hearted. I would give this ride 9 out of 10.

On to one more thrill ride before going for something a little less heart racing. We decided on the Whirlwind. We were placed in a spinning carriage, which goes around the track at super fast speeds. I would give this ride 8 out of 10.

We decided to have a break at the Magic show, Merlin the magician performs twice a day and it was entertaining, this would be good for kids and adults. The audience joined in clapping and cheering which added to the amazement and intrigue. I would give the magic show 8 out of 10.

Following this we headed on over to Squire Bumpkin's Farm to have a look at the animals, It is very nice to just wander around this working farm and see the animal (Pigs, Ponies, Lambs, Goats, a Horse, and a Donkey). I would give the farm 7 out of 10, a nice tranquil place, great for families with smaller children.

Once we have wandered around the farm we headed back to the Land of the Brave and went on The Rack, from this ride we got a birds eye view of the entire park. This receives 8 out of 10.

Next onto Go Karts which was a small additional charge, but worth every penny, we had a brilliant time. Great to bring out the competitive side of us all - 9 out of 10.

After lunch we went to the Jousting Show, which was like stepping back in time to medieval England. There were jugglers, jesters, knights and trick riders. Afterwards we got to chat to King Arthur and some of the knights. 10 out of 10.

On to The Galleon Ships - this ride certainly helped me to find my sea legs and challenged even those of us with a cast iron stomach. Swinging from side to side, I held on and have a brilliant time. 8 out of 10.

Falcon's Flight was next on our list - like a hot air balloon ride, we were able to take in the sights as we gently floated back down to earth.

Pendragon's plunge was great with twists, turns, dips and dives, this is a water ride, where you will get wet so go on this towards the end of the ride - this was my favourite ride and so much fun. I sat on an inflatable, take your courage in both hands and go down three different water slides.

Finally, Log Flume - always go on the log flume last because you get wet. The log flume is a classic ride and always a great way to end the day, then back to the car to change, and go home.

If you are stuck for something to do this weekend I would highly recommend a trip to Camelot. We had a fantastic time and will definitely be going back soon.

I absolutely love Camelot! I've been every year since I was 2 and now I'm 16 and still love it. I have heard rumours that it's closing and love this place so much I cried! It's wonderful to see the power of those beautiful horses and how much they relate to their riders. I truly hope Camelot doesn't close down as it is the best theme park I have ever been to.

I recently organised a group visit to Camelot theme park for our girls dance troupe. They ranged in ages from 2 - 57 years, and without exception they all had a wonderful day. What made things even better was that most of them slept all the way home!

I think it would be criminal to close such a great place for family day out.

What a shame Camelot is closing!!! We have been several times, and this time with my daughter (11) and her friend, and also my son (4). We had a fantastic day, and I even felt safe enough to let my daughter and friend go off on their own for the day whilst I took my son on the rides. They had a superb time, and my son was able to see the jousting and the magic show, which were absolutely superb! We had a lovely time, and we even got discount tickets for Chester Zoo, Camelot and Sealife centres upon entering. You must go to Camelot before it closes!

“I love taking my kids to Camelot, as Alton Towers is...”

★★★★★

written by mozzybozzy on 06/06/2006

I love taking my kids to Camelot, as Alton Towers is way too expensive, and most of the rides there are too big for my kids. Here they can go on all but two rides (Excalibur 1.4mt and Gauntlet rollercoaster 1.3mt) which I love going on!
My eldest who is seven, is just tall enough for the whirlwind 1.2mt - It is a cross between a waltzer and a rollercoaster at high speed, which she loves.
There's a ball park area for when it rains, and if it rains for more than two hours they'll give you a half price ticket (up to 6 people) to return. Which is great for bringing friends back with you.
We "invested" in a season pass (which works out cheaper than visiting twice - £16.50 per visit or Season pass for £25, which means we can go every weekend and every day in the summer, should the local park with it's two swings and slide get boring!)

The jesters Jess and Scoop (and sometimes Merlin) are really funny and get the crowd going (even though most people are eating their packed lunches during the show). They've introduced a new trick horse rider Trigger (and Jake). The jousting is brilliant too!

My kids love the fact that all the knights, jesters and magician are so friendly, and they even say goodbye at the end of the day, still in character.

Sorry, but I can't agree. The ticket price may be cheap but the food is awful and expensive, the staff rude and the toilets.... medieval perhaps?

Both our kids are under 12 and neither of them found anything of interest in Camelot except the petting zoo and one ride. We could have gone to Knowsley Safari park and had more fun. It's so bad it makes Gulliver's World in Warrington look like Disney!

written by littlemissdrunk on 27/01/2005

Camelot is a great theme park for the whole family, the price is quite reasonable and they sometimes have great offers. It is quite easy to find and is quite close to the motorway (unlike Alton Towers which can be a bit of a nightmare to find!) There are places to eat, although we found them to be quite drafty, we unfortunatly went on a very wet day, all the doors were open so we felt cold and wet while we sat eating our food. The scariest ride is Excalerber II! DO NOT PUT YOUR KIDS ON THIS ONE!!!!
