“Very poor in comparison with alternatives”

Written on: 10/05/2013 by Ethiopia

Having lived outside UK for more than ten years and on three different health insurers in US and France I was pleased that AXA PPP was a British company to deal with. Having had 18 months with them I can only say they are really disappointing and despite my wanting recommend a UK company I would strongly advise looking at other alternatives. Reflecting other reviews I would say that in comparison with other providers they have really poor service which is UK-centric and with the clear... (read more)

“Why bother having private medical ”

Written on: 27/03/2013

After develoing a large cyst on my head, I went to my GP and asked to see a consultant as I was not sure how to proceed. I was referred and found it impossible to get AXA to provide me with an authorisation number needed in order to go ahead with the minor surgery to remove the cyst. All the letters were sent from the doctors to AXA but they couldn't bother to call me to say "your claim is denied due to the doctor using the word symtomatic and we don't know what that means"! Obviously that's exactly what this person HAS done and you, like ATOS staff members, have decided you know better than medical personnel who are fully qualified in specific fields of medicine. Thanks Guest for this review - I noticed something unprofessional on the AXA website and googled 'AXA healthcare' and this review came up. You've saved someone else money at least. I hope you pursue and win your case against them. No right-minded judge is going to decide that a random insurance advisor knows better than a specialist, so you should win. Let the papers know if you do.

“Pedantic and money grabbing”

Written on: 22/03/2013 by 80barrow (1 review written)

We have belonged to Permanent Healthcare Company for numerous years and never encountered any problems. Since PPP are now underwriting, things have changed dramatically. Any claim is scrutinised and it can take up to 48 hours to give approval. Many of the top consultants have now been taken off the list because they are deemed too expensive and instead newly qualified consultants are now only offered. On claims, I have experienced that the full cost will now not be met as the fee is above... (read more)

“Horrific experience”

Got into Bangkok from the UK on a 4-week holiday. On day 3 I developed some nasty back pain by the thoracic region of the spine. Got rushed to see a private Orthopaedic Consultant who suspected an inflammation of the joint facets and put me on strong painkillers and muscle relaxants, plus advised an X-Ray and MRI scan.... called AXA for approval and from then on the bureaucracy to get those two tests approved (at a total cost of £200!) was just beyond belief. The procedure as I understood it is 1, go to GP and get a referral 2, check that the specialist is on AXA's list 3, go to specialist an give the policy number and authorisation code. I just transferred from another provider because of the price of the AXA service I was offered for what I thought was a better level of cover. “AVOID AXA AT ALL COSTS!!!!”

Written on: 23/11/2012 by Avoid_AXA (1 review written)

I bought an annual plan from AXA for my family in June and paid for it in advance. In August my daughter was having back pains and so we phoned AXA and were told she should go and get a referral letter from the doctor and then they would be able to process the claim. After 4 weeks of waiting, I gave up and sent her to a local Physiotherapist and paid for it myself. AXA are a JOKE! Avoid at all costs!

Got into Bangkok and 2 days into my 4 week holidays I experienced some sudden strong pain to my thoracic spine... I then met a local Orthopaedic Consultant for an opinion and they suspected an inflammation to the joint facets and suggested I take an X-ray and MRI scans... both at the cost of approx. £200 pounds (230 euros, 240 US dollars) .... the bureaucracy that followed my initial call to AXA to see if both scans would be covered was simply beyond belief, when I clearly stated I URGENTLY needed such procedures done as I was in pain.
To make a long story short I emailed them to cancel the claim and paid for the procedures myself.
AXA (provided as part of my American Express Platinum Service) were simply appalling at dealing with an urgent medical claim from abroad and would discourage ANYONE from signing up to their awful services.

Insurance companies will always look to pay out.
One of the biggest reasons medical insurance providers don't pay out is that what you tell them and your medical reports say , don't match.

Also depends on how your policy is underwritten ,exclusion.etc.so make sure u know what u can claim for and not.

Another problem medical insurance companies have is fraudulent claim payouts which go into thousands and thousands each year so many people try it on.

So "always pre existing "probably cos it was.

“Do not choose AXA PPP”

Written on: 25/08/2011

We were very happy with our private health insurance until they moved us to AXA/PPP. Now we find that every claim is a fight, all the top London Doctors are not covered fully under our policy - which is the top policy and we often have to pay towards the costs when we see a specialist. It feels when we phone them that they are trying everything they can to make the claim as difficult as possible for us so that we don't actually make the claim. They do not make you feel good about phoning and... (read more)

Do not use this company ! I have been with AXA for six years now and have only had one claim, unfortunately for me, I developed an AVM on my shoulder which is quite rare and needs a few treatments and procedures to get rid of. I thought that I was lucky to have Health Insurance at a time like, this when you develop something unusual and strange, but boy was I wrong. I wish that I had just gone through the NHS as the stress of using AXA is just not worth is especially when you are at your... (read more)

“Doing everything not to pay”

Written on: 16/06/2011 by Paulhart23

I have had AXA insurance for 3 years for the family and never claimed. I make a claim for a lump to be removed from my leg which only occurred during my 3 years with AXA. They have refused to pay any thing saying this must have occured before I started this policy. We are now in an argument about this. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do not use this company they are the worst company I have ever dealt with. Thanks Paul (read more)

“Most shocking company ever”

Written on: 06/06/2011

We have had nothing but trouble since we registered with AXA. They question absolutely everything, their customer service is dire to non-existent, each department seems to have no idea what the other is doing. They have EVENTUALLY paid most of our claims but not with us having to make umpteen phonecalls, chase them up, get letters from specialists etc. Our hassles with them are too numerous to go into detail but suffice it to say I would NEVER recommend them to anyone and if you're thinking... “AXXA DAILY LIGHT ROBBERY!”

Written on: 28/05/2011 by kris251 (1 review written)

After paying £65 a month for the last 2yrs, i needed a operation for terrible pain. The consultant which Axxa refused to pay for (at the present time) and who is top of his field in the country - stated i needed this operation as a matter off urgency. Axxa "experts" have refused this claim. Money grabbing and extremely poor customer service and communications. Do not accept there services even if there offered for free! Please be warned, this company is beyond terrible... (read more)

“I would like to reiterate what has been said in...”

Written on: 13/05/2011

I would like to reiterate what has been said in several posts, the importance of checking cover before treatment. If you were asked to agree to pay for something, your not told what you're paying for, why, or how much it will cost, I am sure the majority of us would think twice to agreeing to this. It works the same with insurance, if you need them to pay, you need to ask first. Secondly, the importance of Reading your contract. This will clearly explain how to claim and what to expect. If... You must be kidding. Clearly which AXA employee wrote this. This is abhorrent, dishonest and underhand. This planted positive review that does not refer to any claim of the writer is shameful. It alone should be enough to turn every person away from AXA.

I am glad someone has comfidence in this company as I am a member and after reading the above I was thinking of changing my health insurance. I have now been referred to a specialist and have informed AXAPPP who told me to go ahead so all being well I should not have any problems I hope!!!!!

I agree which employee wrote this. I checked several times even with AXA PPP about treatment. Was advised Yes ALL covered only to be issued with a bill afterwards! and believe it or not unfortunately going through the same absolute rubbish AGAIN!Even though once again I checked out what would be covered before the Op. They are the worst, don't use them, if you have a choice which unfortunately I don't!

“AVOID AT ALL COSTS if you actually want your insurer...”

Written on: 05/04/2011

AVOID AT ALL COSTS if you actually want your insurer to pay out.
I took out medical insurance at just below their top cover level with AXA PPP back in June 2010, paying £55 a month. I have had no real health issues but wanted to be covered just in case.
However, I put my back out innocuously and wanted to claim for treatment. I now realise how much I have been ripped off by joining Axa.
To claim is a long arduous process where I now need to get them my medical records before they will... (read more)

I agree, I have exactly the same problems. Was with a previous insurer and stupidyly moved to Axxa and was very surprised and not pleased with their customer service or any service. My previous insurer paid out for an operation for my stomach problem and Axxa took over surprise surprise, would not pay out for the same problem! My consultant said he would put a letter to them also to say an operation for my pain is needed as he has had many patience with the same problems for getting Axxa to pay. He said they are the worst and are known very well to him for this reason. Avoid, better off going with the NHS to save you a lot of grief and stress!

“If you consider taking this policy, DON'T! ”

Written on: 01/04/2011

If you consider taking this policy, DON'T!
They would pinch and find any excuse to not pay.
Now I am trying to cancel my policy (yet + - half year before official annual term) and they are refusing it! I demanded legal explanation why they deny my official cancellation request, after I lost trust in AXA and have another health insurance now! They are still in process of replying. I mean, they can charge me some cancellation fee, but they cannot force me to have this unneeded anymore AXA... (read more)
