Having lived outside UK for more than ten years and on three different health insurers in US and France I was pleased that AXA PPP was a British company to deal with. Having had 18 months with them I can only say they are really disappointing and despite my wanting recommend a UK company I would strongly advise looking at other alternatives. We have belonged to Permanent Healthcare Company for numerous years and never encountered any problems. Since PPP are now underwriting, things have changed dramatically. Any claim is scrutinised and it can take up to 48 hours to give approval. Many of the top consultants have now been taken off the list because they are deemed too expensive and instead newly qualified consultants are now only offered. On claims, I have experienced that the full cost will now not be met as the fee is above... (read more)

AXA are a JOKE! Avoid at all costs!
Got into Bangkok and 2 days into my 4 week holidays I experienced some sudden strong pain to my thoracic spine... I then met a local Orthopaedic Consultant for an opinion and they suspected an inflammation to the joint facets and suggested I take an X-ray and MRI scans... both at the cost of approx. £200 pounds (230 euros, 240 US dollars) .... the bureaucracy that followed my initial call to AXA to see if both scans would be covered was simply beyond belief, when I clearly stated I URGENTLY needed such procedures done as I was in pain.
To make a long story short I emailed them to cancel the claim and paid for the procedures myself.
AXA (provided as part of my American Express Platinum Service) were simply appalling at dealing with an urgent medical claim from abroad and would discourage ANYONE from signing up to their awful services.

Insurance companies will always look to pay out.
One of the biggest reasons medical insurance providers don't pay out is that what you tell them and your medical reports say , don't match.
Also depends on how your policy is underwritten ,exclusion.etc.so make sure u know what u can claim for and not.
Another problem medical insurance companies have is fraudulent claim payouts which go into thousands and thousands each year so many people try it on.
So "always pre existing "probably cos it was.

My previous insurer paid out for an operation for my stomach problem and Axxa took over surprise surprise, would not pay out for the same problem! My consultant said he would put a letter to them also to say an operation for my pain is needed as he has had many patience with the same problems for getting Axxa to pay. He said they are the worst and are known very well to him for this reason. Avoid, better off going with the NHS to save you a lot of grief and stress!

Obviously that's exactly what this person HAS done and you, like ATOS staff members, have decided you know better than medical personnel who are fully qualified in specific fields of medicine. Thanks Guest for this review - I noticed something unprofessional on the AXA website and googled 'AXA healthcare' and this review came up. You've saved someone else money at least. I hope you pursue and win your case against them. No right-minded judge is going to decide that a random insurance advisor knows better than a specialist, so you should win. Let the papers know if you do.
