This md player has a very bad battery and does not charge correctly trough the included usb charger. Battery life is very short like 10 years to go .When you recording and battery goes nicely slowly empty and empty you can not connect usb cable to charge it because it does not effect to deliver power. Other problem is it is impossible to access to all menu function like sound pre set self on walkman you must using this remote control to access to some menu function of the player. This... If it was still out there then I'd say by a Sony MZ-N10 but if you can then get one off Ebay or something like that because it's a piece of Sonys history!
Also if you want a stylish minidisk player than here's the one!

I have had many minidsc players in the past but this was my first foray into the Sony market, and I have been massively impressed. The software provided is very simple to use (Sonic Stage) and the extras provided with the player were top quality. The provided Sony leather case wa a nice touch and also an additional AA battery addon pack boosts your battery time by 100%. The Li-ION battery also provides a stand alone playback time of around 40-50 hours. I am averaging 5-6 albums per mini disc... (read more)

Ok it turns out the problem is with the Li-Ion battery door. When there is substantial movement then the door opens slightly cutting off the power. If you use the additional battery pack it prevents the cut offs and doubles your battery life. I get around 90 hours playback from a full charge Li-Ion and a AA duracell battery now. Almost a year now and no problems with this payer or the software. Very reliable MD player.

OK I now take back everything I said!
<br>
<br>This stinks!
<br>
<br>I wish I could re-review this because its so dissapointing. THe problem with the battery door is just irritating now and the slightest movement turns off the player completely.
<br>
<br>The memory of the player doesn't erase now either so the previous disc information is still stored when you change disc, the worst case scenario was when the player stared playing a song that wasn't even on the disc inserted!
<br>
<br>Thsi problem is resolved by removing the battery then replacing it, but I dont want to have to be doing that every time I want to listen to a different MD.
<br>
<br>It's now in for it's second repair in as many months. I'm very dissapointed, especially with this being a Sony !
<br>
<br>Do yourself a favour! Buy a Creative Zen instead!

Sony's 10th aniversary of the MD has brought upon us a new top line MD. The Net MD MZ-N10 isn't just a MZ-N1 with better looks, (which I originally thought it was) but adds really some really cool features. Listing them is the easiest way to present it so: ~Body asthetics~
the unit is made of magnesium and is very sturdy. The solid feel to it makes up for the small size in terms of solidness. (remember the some of the nokia...

Since I placed this review I have noticed a few problms with the MZ-N710. The headphpnes provided stopped working within 4 months of purchase (luckily its under warranty and were repaired by the retailer). Now I find the player seems to have no anti shock and when im sitting on the bus and hit a bump it turns off completley. Very annoying! When you restart the player it doesnt save your track info either so instead of starting you off where the player turned off it wipes the memory and starts the mini disc again. Im putting it in for repair and will post up the outcome when I get it back.
