    hi,
If you are looking for a medium range budget laptops then ADVENT will be an ideal solution. I purchased a CORE 2 DUO Advent for £525. I used Advent for more than 16 months. It would have lasted longer if I had not spilled water over it. The only draw back was the weight. But you have to compromise on something if you have a limited budget.

Overall, all things considered I would give the Advent laptop 7.5 out of 10. Only really the battery that lets it down. I have heard people complain about strange noises from onboard speaker and/or head phones apparently this is due to interference from the pro-wireless card. Cant say I have had a problem with that. It was one of the last ones off the shelf so maybe they made revisions before discontinuing it.

As has been mentioned in other reviews, the Advent 7014 laptop is a desktop replacement. A sticker on the bottom suggests it's made by Gericom and lists their website for support, except the model number is different, and I can't find it there.

It has a fast 2.8Ghz processor, but only runs fast when connected to the mains. It's very heavy to carry for any length of time, plus it's also quite thick compared to other notebooks, so it doesn't always fit into standard cases.

On top of that, ce ...

I brought the Advent 7014 back and PC World would not agree to let me take the hard drive home so after a conversation with management and a few weeks wait got a call to say that was fine, by the time I got back out there it was another few weeks and same thing again that manager had left there was no record of it etc etc. What a nightmare of a company, the on duty manager was useless rude and extremely unhelpful so out of desperation I just left it there to be fixed.
I rang today 7 weeks on an ...

I purchased an Advent 7014 laptop eight months ago. The power supply is dead and the pin for the power supply on the laptop is wiggling in its slot. PC World are asking £326 to fix it. Under normal circumstances it should still be subject to manufacturers warranty as it is less than a year old. I used an IBM Thinkpad for two year before purchasing the Advent and it still in good working order. Stay away from Advent laptops!!!

Got the Advent 7014 laptop six months ago from a friend and it cost me £400. He had it from new for a cost of around £1500. He had no problems with it. I`ve had no problemss with it and use it every day. It has good specifications for what I paid for it.

After buying the Advent 7014 I have only thing to say: Stay away from Advent!! And PC World if possible. They tried to fob me off with a reconditioned laptop, when I got home it was already registered and had photos from a previous owner in memory.
The new one that was a replacement then had pixels gone in the screen.
    3 laptops in 2 months for €1599.

Ive had the Advent 7014 laptop for a while, and i liked it at first because i upgraded from a 500MHz comp, but now i think its a load of rubbish! There are far better computers to spend money on! Cannot be ran on battery because of poor performance, which defeats the point of a laptop!

Screen on my Advent 7007 Laptop has died after 18 months fairly frequent use. This together with PC World's so-called product support, ie rip-off phone calls that achieve nothing whenever I have contacted them, means never again with Advent or PC World.
No Windows disc supplied with bundled programme, PC World policy, apparently.
    Battery life appalling.
    Build quality appalling.
Price has halved, I think, since I bought it. I'm not surprised on one hand, and flamin angry on the other. ...

Having had an Advent 8485DVD for 3 years, I have had to return it for hardware repairs 5 times and software once. My 3 year extended warranty is almost up and I'm getting rid. I would never never buy an Advent computer again, no matter how cheap - spend the extra cash and get a good brand or even buy a revamped branded laptop

    Don't touch an Advent Laptop!!!!
Absolutely a bag of excrement !!!
It is now my life long ambition to slate off PC World after receiving the most disgusting Customer Service ever. I was told in no uncertain terms that the Consumer Goods Act did not apply to PC WORLD !!!!!!!!!!!!!

First of all, this product is a "desktop replacement". It means that
    - it is heavy,
    - it consumes lot of power,
    - when it runs from battery the performance is low,
    - when it is plugged in it is fast and
    - it is cheap.

It is very important to note that when it is unplugged the performance is significatly lower to save battery life. Even though it has a 2.8GHz CPU a notebook with a slower CPU optimised for mobile usage may outperform it.

Let's speak about Advent 7014. When it is unplugg ...

Price/performance of the Advent 7014 is very good. It has both advantages and disadvantages. For more details see the in full review. A reasonable choice.
