“Not just bad ovens, bad company”

I bought my Smeg double electric oven from Harrods a few years ago for £1,000. The oven never really worked well, and I quickly realised I should have stuck to Neff. The problem is the oven takes a lifetime to heat up and then browns the food unevenly because the temperature is not even throughout the oven. If this wasn't bad enough, last year the electric clock stopped working. An authorised Smeg agent replaced the clock for £300. “I bought the Smeg DO 8C double electric oven in June...”

I bought the Smeg DO 8C double electric oven in June 2003. Just after a year the thermostats in both ovens needed replacing at a cost of £150. Six months after that the top oven/grill door shattered and fell to the floor.

Having already spent money purchasing the oven and then paying to repair the thermostats, I was unwilling to throw even more money at it by replacing the door at a cost of at least another £150. Bear in mind that this oven is only 2 years old at this point, and it cost in… Read Full Review
