Best holiday I have been to and I have been all over its really clean and tidy staff are really helpfull. I must admit it is about run down and there is room for improvement but it is amazing. The things to do for kids is unreal you really need to try it out for your self let me just say I have been to all 3 butlins that this one is by far the best mine head is a horrible eww but this is perfect for all the family. I stayed at Butlins Skeg in April 2013 with my 9 and 12 year old children. On tight budget I booked the standard room only and was delighted to see that this included food. My friend paid for gold self catering and paid double what I did in the same week and she went self catering. There was no difference between our rooms decor or quality wise. Butlins Skeg - what a nightmare place i would surrgest you book anywhere but here its a waste of money, tired run down and a complete rip off, the accomodation was awful, stinky and in need of an update,the facilities poor, the rides rusty & old,the activities repetitive & boring, the food...well were still suffering from a sickness bug! would i go back.NEVER!!!! Place is rundown and dirty, and if you put animals in the standard of accomodation they put humans in, you would be fined. Bourne Leisure can only be assumed to be above the law, and have no idea what customer service is!!!

Room was dirty, curtains where burnt and singed around the bottom edges you would not have let your dog sleep on the sofa because of the state it was in, toilet leaking which they tried to fix on 3 occasions, when we left it was still leaking, when we asked to move they could not do this because there was 7 of us, which is understandable if they had then sorted these issues, but they made no attempt and the staff where completly unhelpful. We chose Skegness as it has direct access to the beach, however they lock the gate at 5-30, too early for us.We took four grandchildren all boys ages 10 -15 not many rides for them to go on, and the ones there were we had to pay £5 a time.We also had to book for activities such as climbing wall ect,all payable.Entertainment well it might of been ok if we could have found a seat in any of the venues, we were there for a week and never saw one show, we complained about seating and were told... Just returned from a Monday - Friday trip to Butlins with family.
We've been to Skegness several times before and thoroughly enjoyed it this time too.
Accommodation - Stayed in Gold. Not too bad although have probably had cleaner apartments.
Food - Dined in Coast. Lots of choice. Never disappointed.
Entertainment - Didn't bother with the queues for Reds or Centre stage but saw plenty of the Skyline.
Pool - Nice and warm.

I so agree with you. It suits everyone and pocket!! I have two holidays coming up - a) I am taking my daughter there for her 13th birthday (its a surprise)in October 2011, it's the first time we will be staying in a caravan, (it has c/heating and d/glazing), so was glad to read you review. My daughter had been with me ("single mum" who works) between the years of 3-8yrs, and being an only child it was great for her as you always make friends then from 9-12yrs she started going with her dad, step sister and grannie, a Butlins holiday is every thing to her. b) Whilst looking at the site 3 weeks ago, I have booked for a Aug 2012 holiday (Mon-Fri) half board, silver room for my daughter and I, I was pleased with the deal, and as she will be nearly 14yrs, it should be a good girlie week!!!

As a young family of four we fancied a change this year for our new year break, usually prefering Center Parks.

We took our 8 week old baby and two and half year old here as we wanted a fun holiday for our eldest where everything was on site and we didn't have to travel much with our new baby and Butlins definately delivered. I did find that every time we go to Butlins the Red Coats do not smile and seem like they do not want to be there, not how it used to be (i.e. hi de hi) which it was like when I was a child. I have also been to Centre Parcs and agree it is in a different league. I really had to laugh at this review as apart from the Red Coats it was what both my mother and myself have said. Having said that my son loves it there so we are going back, as you say parents do these things for their children.

Its a shame you feel you had to take a holiday with your family, in a "slum" and were "forced to associate with people you spend the rest of your life trying to avoid", why you feel you have Tar everyone with the same brush I do not know. But Butlins is good family holiday fun, and I mean this from the times when my parents took my sister, my brother and myself, to myself, her father taking our daughter for the past 9 years. We have all enjoyed it. I am glad that your children enjoy it and they are going again, hopefully it will be something they remember from their childhood too!

Took the kids away to Butlins Skegness for the weekend, this was my first time there. It seems to be a absolute money grabbing experience, everywhere you looked they were trying to get more money out of you, from amusement machines that pay out in tickets, which once hundreds have been won can then be exchanged for the cheapest tackiest gifts ever ! My husband and I have just returned from the Butlins four day 60's themed break, and had a fab time. We usually opt for the standard chalets as they are near the amenities, this year they have been upgraded with new decor, bed, and carpet, and I can honestly say you couldn't fault it.

A good camp on the hole with GREAT ENTERTAINMENT which can't be beaten by anything. Well worth the money. The rooms are all very clean and were only refurbished no more than 10 years ago. The food available on site is great and the daytime entertainment is also surprisingly good. After reading a few reviews I am compelled to write one of my own. We have been taking our 3 young boys (aged 7,5 and 2) for the past 3 years.

We booked to stay in a 3 bed gold apartment on 29th March for 5 days and chose the premium half board option. Booked up last August for a 4 day break last minute. My 2 kids were hounding me to go so I thought we would give it a go. I was very surprised how clean and tidy it was, helpfull staff and plenty of entertainment for the kids. There was one main problem I found and it is quite a biggy I'm afraid....
Aside from the excellent time we had whilst we were there the problem was (I'm not a snob)the people that go to these places. We decided to go for the food option (include at your peril)...

You have to look past the other residents, we admitedly went self catering, and only ate at the pub on site once.

<br/>Remember this is a cheap British holiday. Even if you go abroad you're not going to escape 'the great unwashed' as you probably would label them.

<br/>If you said 'No chavs' then Butlins would go under. How else would their slot machines get filled with 2 pences?

<br/>To say how great the site and facilities was and then score 1 star because of the clientel is I'm afraid biggotted and snobish yes. If you pay £1000 per head per week you can expect to avoid the riff raff, but at the prices charged you will expect that single moms and dads and the people at the lower end of the social ladder will be there. They need a holiday too.

<br/>My advise is to enjoy the holiday there for what it is. This is a value for money holiday, I think having sampled the competition Butlins is the best us British have to offer in this area of holiday.

Bultins is brilliant everyone should try it. The pools are good espacially the water flume and slides and rapids there is pool for every age great fun. went to Butlins Skegness in July 2009 with my husband, our girls who were 2 1/1 and 15 months. Overall the holiday was fab. We found the staff very helpful and entertaining, there were always things to do on the park for all age groups.
Butlins were extremely helpful one night when my youngest daughter came into some breathing difficulties. They provided a car to take us from the resort to the local hospital and then provided a car for the return trip aswell. This was all done very quickly...

Bacicly i don't know how anyone could not like Butlins There just so much to do, the Master Blaster is great you go all around the pool and the Space Bowl where you spin in that bowl and you may land head first, or back first the best ever swimming pool anyone who thinks there are better pools should stick to there own and the entertainment at Butlins is the best ever anyone who thinks different has bad taste And theres a bonus if you go to Skegness there Fantasy Island 1 of the best ever... agree with most wot is written, apart from fantasy island. that is the worst theme park ive been to. £15 to get on, then no rides open. only about 3 decent rides with age restrictions(unlike blackpool). biggest waste of money ever spent at theme parks

Got back yesterday from a week at Butlins Skegness. Thirteen year old daughter enjoyed it. 11 month old son enjoyed it but, he wouldn't know any different. Stayed in Silver apartment with bed and breakfast. Chalet floor was absolutely filthy - in the end managed to get it wet vacced, after son had come out in a rash all over him. Housekeeping supposedly came in each day but seemed to choose one item that they'd do each day ie. one day they might empty the bin, another day put a glass away.... (read more)

Butlins, Skegness, what an experience! Grandchildren loved it, at 6 and 7 years old it was exciting and fun. As grandparents we loathed it, good manners, civility, humour, everything that used to typify the great British way of life, gone and never more evident than here. Saw one show, Looney Tunes, which was ticket only, so managed to get 4 tickets. Not a chance of getting into Reds or Centre Stage. People queued for 4 hours and then others push in. My 5 year old daughter have just returned from butlins skegness we stayed silver bed, breakfast and dinner. we had a fantastic time, the room was very clean the food was lovely and so much choice! the staff and red coats were really friendly and welcoming. This is the worst holiday i had ever been on. I hated the food.The Butlins staff shouted at me just because i wasnt out of the room when the lady came to clean it half way through my holiday.The beds are like twigs they keep poking you in the back. came on a 3 night break to Butlins Skegness on 17th july. on arrival staff on the gate and recieving keys were fab very friendly and welcoming. finally found our room- silver self catering! very far from the main parts and with a 3 year old and a 16 month old they found the disance bit of a walk but managed. the accomodation wasnt as expected to be honest the pic didnt look anything like it! We have just come back from a 5 night break at Butlins Skegness. We stayed in Gold and it is now starting to look dated. The TV picture was bad and our view was of a brick wall! The entertainment was poor, no wrestling or decent shows. It cost £6.80 for a round of cokes at the bar, daylight robbery! We have just come back from a 5 night break at Butlins Skegness. We stayed in Gold and the accommodation is now starting to look very dated...top of tap missing in the bathroom. No hot water twice and rubbish TV picture all week...reported both, water sorted but told that they are up-grading to digital TV so we had to put up with rubbish reception. We went last June, self catering, but I didnt want to cook this year so went this year Half Board in June and it was great, we stayed in a standard room, which was fine, we only paid 190 for the week, for 2 adults and one 5 year old it was great value! Butlins was the biggest waste of my time and paitience i have ever been unfortunate enough to suffer. i wouldn't even recomend it to my worst enemy. everywhere was packed and to actually see anything you had to get there 3-4 hours early.
which doesnt leave you much option but to either go to the arcades (which was extortion, with less chance of winning than the lotto) or go to a resturant (with main courses that wouldn't feed a small child)
to summerise: if you like to set fire to your money...

poor holiday at Butlins, Skegness from start to finish. booked to stay a week from monday the 6th july but left after 4 days after our apartment was broken into and had over £1800 worth of goods stolen and butlins done nothing ethier to stop us leaving or offering compensation. (read more)
