Good Points: We stayed in Dunk island for just under a week. Our trip was very expensive from Brisbane so we expected the island to be amazing. We were satisfied in many respects starting with the food. The food was incredible, it's that simple. Our room was gorgeous - we had a bay view suite that was perfect. The bay stops waves from coming in so we could swim in the mornings before breakfast. We went on a tour to see the great barrier reef that was very expensive but worthwhile. There was hardly anyone there so we could play tennis, squash or golf any time we wanted.
Bad Points: The beach is very rocky with lots of dead coral. It is also fairly shallow. You can't go in the ocean past around noon because the tide goes out so far and the beach turns into this black mucky stuff that you can't walk in. There was nothing to do in the evenings for us young folk. We were bored after dinner so we would go for a walk but there was really nowhere to walk to. Drinks aren't included and the beverages are expensive. There is only one restaurant and one lunch place (lunch isn't included at the resort). I recommend this resort to older people looking for seclusion (they play cards in the lounge at night and there is sometimes live music). It is very very quiet.
General comments: We stayed in Dunk island for just under a week. Our trip was very expensive from Brisbane so we expected the island to be amazing.

Dunk Island is located between Cairns and Townsville in tropical north Queensland, Australia.
The island is about 5km (just over 3 miles) ferry trip from the mainland town of Mission Beach or 40 minute flight south from Cairns.
This is the location my wife and I chose for our honeymoon and can happily recommend it to families and couples alike.
The weather is exceptional averaging 29o C (85oF) for the year with the wet season being from approximately November until April.
