Overall, Paper Monsters is an artist;s work in progress. It is a shy album that doesn't fully get comfortable with itself until the very end. But, by the last track you know that Dave has the potential to establish himself independently, away from the fame that being with Depeche Mode has brought him. For fans of Depeche Mode, you should own this album because it is a piece of history and still very much related to that bands success. For newcomers, the album is a good introduction into a different style of music. If you're hesitant to try it, give it a few listens and see if it doesn't grow on you.
