Good Points: Great food, rooms, facilities, close to beach and bushwalking.

    Bad Points: Shocking colour scheme

General comments: The Cumberland Resort is located in the township of Lorne on the Great Ocean Road in Victoria about 1 1/2 to 2 hours drive south west of Melbourne.
The resort has squash and tennis courts, gym, games room, sauna, indoor pool with spa as well as mountain bikes and surf equipment for guests to use at their leisure.
The resort also has several conference rooms catering for groups from 10 to 350.

Package stays have reasonable rates starting at around AU$270 / double for 2 nights including: Two night accommodation in a one bedroom garden apartment with private spa and balcony, a bottle of sparkling wine and chocolates on arrival, 3 course a la carte dinner for two on one night at Chris' restaurant on one night (excellent food - I reccommend the oysters, eye fillet and cheese platter),fully Cooked "Endless" Buffet breakfast served in Chris' Restaurant on both mornings (again - excellent food, and LOTS of it!), use of Resort's recreational facilities and secure car parking!
    Bargain!

The resort is only a stone's throw from the beach, local pub and the many shops at Lorne. Lorne is a tourist mecca and can get very crowded during school holidays, Easter and Christmas etc. Summer is definately the best time to be there if you like the outdoors as it can get quite cool (10 degrees celcius daytime temperature) here in winter.

Surfing is a little hit and miss due to the aspect of the bay, but can be very good (And crowded!) when it is too big everywhere else.

There is good fishing on the nearby rock ledges, local jetty and some small trout streams neaby.

The only thing I cringe at was the colur scheme outside. At a dusty pink, it doesn't really blend in with the local flora!
