Underworld - Definitely a great movie - probably one of Beckinsale's absolute best. I would recommend Underworld, but perhaps not as wholeheartedly as other action movies I'd recommend, such as Kill Bill or Resident Evil.
The action is rather brief - the main action goes for approximately ten minutes at the start, and then it's all talk. In fact, if that ten minutes was removed, I'd more classify this movie as a suspense/drama, rather than action/adventure.
The story is complex and hard to understand, but we get the gist of it. Salene (Beckinsale) is a vampire and a "death dealer" who is mixed in a century raged war between vampires and Lycans (werewolves) But once she falls in love with a mortal half-werewolf, she has to fight to save him, to save her world, and to save ours.
Rated MA for heavy, slightly gorey violence, and very slight unterrifying horror, Underworld isn't appropriate for very young children, but I think those around the entering-adolescence age of 13 should be able to handle it, but will have to bore through withstanding a complex plot which they most probably will have no idea what on earth is going on.
Recommended.
