Good Points: One of the best seasons of Buffy. Buffy has to grow up fast with the loss of her mum and the responsibilty of looking after Dawn. Some brilliant comic highlights and two of the most tear-jerking episodes in Buffy history. And Spike falls in love. Unmissable.

General comments: This season is quite a departure from the teeny happy-go-lucky Buffy of the previous seasons. Although they all had their dark and painful moments, Season 5 brings Buffy into an adult world - all the characters grow dramatically. The introduction of Dawn raises a few eyebrows in the first few episodes until all is explained and Glory appears. As a god, she seems truly undefeatable. Spike falling in love with Buffy was a twist I didn't see coming - but didn't seem as wrong as I thought it would! Fool for Love is one of the great episodes. Comedy moments come courtesy of Zander 'I'm sick of being everyone's butt monkey', Harmony and Spike's sex game, and Anya, among others. The Body and The Gift are the obvious heart-breakers - I can't watch them dry-eyed.
The season develops Buffy into a single mother, sows the seeds of the lengths Willow will go to when Tara is hurt, and Zander gets out of the basement and proposes. One of my favourite seasons of Buffy.
