the power is there if needed also for a little 1.4 engine.
i am an 18 year old lad and the insurance is not to dear at all.

When I bought this car 4 months ago i thought it was the bees-knees and i still do. I think this car can be good on petrol if you dont exceed 1500 revs in any gear.
I especially like the back end of the Rover 214si looks very very good, and i like the interior.

If heater is left on tends to stop head from blowing, lowers water pressure.

★★★★★

written by Wills1 on 22/09/2006

My Rover 214 Si car is very easy to insure as a first time driver and is a very good runner. However, I had a few problems:
1. First the clutch completely went, partially my fault but was on its way out.
2. A day after I got it back, my timing belt went causing all my valves to bend.
3. My rotor arm went, causing my car to break down again. I had to get the RAC out.
Total cost: £1400 repairs.

Very nice cars and cheapish to get parts for. I would still recommend this to a friend.

The Rover 214 Si was my first car, and boy what a hateful little piece of machinery it is!
The K series engine in the early models (like the one in mine!) is just about the worst piece of mechanical engineering ever, EVER, put into production.

I bought a Rover 214 Si 16v, it is a very quick car for group 6 ins. I've done 60 in 9 secs and it kept pulling all the way to 125mph! Inside is comfy, the heaters warm up quickly. Mine is dark metalic blue in 3 door and with alloys it looks subtle and stylish.

hi, just updating my review, since my review was written i have come a croper on a few problems. First of all the clutch cable snapped and had to be towed home then last week the water coolant dropped dramatically and now the head gasket has gone as a result. gutted.

“Had my Rover 200 for just over a year and a half and...”

★★★★☆

written by benjgodden on 11/01/2006

Had my Rover 200 for just over a year and a half and in that time I have done 33000 miles and the engine is still as good as it was the day I bought it. I got it for just over £2,000 and it comes with ABS and power steering. The boot is fairly big and is plenty big enough for a decent sound system install. Handling is great and you can feel the car pulling all the way up to 125mph (not bad for a 1.4)
I've modded mine a bit, with a ZR rear spoiler, front splitter, Savage backbox, Piper-x induction kit, meshed front grill, 17" alloy wheels, lowered at the front, black rear Lexus lights, tinted windows and a few other bits, love the car and the exhaust note with a 3.5" backbox is immense at 2.5 metres it made 104.2 decibels, my mates RS turbo with a 5" pipe made 105db from 1 metre. It's a car that despite being a common car can look very original with very little work.

My SEi had an exhaust note even higher than your modded version - I then took it to get fixed!
For £30, it blows no more...

written by allena1 on 06/04/2005

I got a Rover 214si when I passed my driving test and I just love my wee car. It starts first time any time I need it to. It has very good acceleration and since I put an induction kit and performance exhaust on, it does 0-60 in 8 seconds. They look great with just a set of alloys, although I intend to spruce mine up a bit more with that boy racer look. The only bad point about the car is its fuel consumption (although it could be the way I drive it). I would recommend this car to anyone. They are way more value for money than any other 1.4 car on the roads today.

Benjgodden's Response to allena1's Review

Written on: 10/01/2006

depends on how low you want to go. i dropped the front by 40mm on my 214si and have no problem with rubbing, although the rear of the car did rub but this probably do to rubbish shocks, if you gonna lower a rover go for the full kit rather than just springs, i have also stuck an MG ZR rear spoiler on with no hassle at all and meshed the front grill and done a few other bits, next is a rover splitter being added to the front bumper (well replacing the one that 'found' a rabbit) and an MG ZR rear bumper. its great fun to drive and can embarrass much larger engined motors, only bad thing is that fuel consumption is a bit on the highish side, but might be cos i cane it everywhere (and the engine takes it no probs) the engine is extremely strong, and run true and with a backbox the engine sounds gorgeous.

i agree 100%, i own a rover 214 sei 16v and i absolutley love the car apart from when my head gasket went which i think all rover owners will experience throughout the long duration of owning a rover, i have 17 inch alloys on mine and ive been wondering whether i would need to get my arches rolled out if i was to get the car lowered any suggestions?

The Rover 214Si has been a really good car for me and runs superbly, it drives really nice and is fast on the motorways but giuzzels fuel at high speeds, I find that it has good torque and I even tow a small caravan with mine, it has a huge boot and roomy cabin. good all rounder

“This car was bought to replace my Renault 19 Biarittz...”

★★★★☆

written by Mike. on 22/03/2003

This car was bought to replace my Renault 19 Biarittz which was written off by thieves back in january. So far it has perfomed pretty well and has proven to be quite a reliable car. At Si specifications the rover 214 is very basic in terms of added extras, in fact all that is provided is central locking, steering Height adjustment and a very basic alarm. However for the price that I paid for it I wasn't expecting all that much.
Being a very late 1992 K plater my car was one of the facelifted versions with the crome grille that made it resemble (at least in passing) a BMW. The interior however seems to have been designed to appeal to the older members of the British population. It's all dull and grey except for the crome door handles and walnut plastic strip in the dashboard.
Also being a late K plater the engine received a 8bhp increase in horsepower from previous 214's having 103bhp as opposed to 95bhp in previous models. In fact I'd go as far to say that from 0 to 60 even with just a 1.4 litre engine the rover 214 could embarrass a few more modern 'warm hatches'
Parking is made difficult(for some people) by the lack of Power Assisted steering. However at normal or even low speeds the steering is light enough for every day driving.
All in all a very capable (if basic) car and I'd probably buy another(newer) one if the opportunity & the funds ever came again!

P.S. has anyone ever had the inner pipe on the front flexible pipe on the exhaust instead of the surrounding braiding?
