The Virgin Suicides is a beautifully dreamy film version of the book by Jeffrey Eugenides. All the teen actresses who are unknowns apart from Kirsten Dunst (Hanna Hall as Cecilia stands out) are amazing in their roles, as are the young boys who watch the angelic Lisbon daughters fall apart after the suicide of their youngest sister. It sticks to the theme of the book, and doesn't offer any reasons as to their mass suicide (which is the main point which Eugenides makes in the novel), and presents only more questions. Sofia Coppola's directing is perfect, as is the fantastic soundtrack by Air who summarise the hazy atmosphere of the film perfectly.
The only problem with the film is that it cannot fully encapsulate the aura of the novel, although I don't think any film or director could ever manage it.
