Good Points: Good in low light, pretty easy to use. Excellent for snaps

Bad Points: Pictures using zoom are not good, flash whiteout on skintones is irritating. No review directly after taking picture.

General comments: I do like the Epson PhotoPC 850Z but I would only buy one second hand. I like the chunky fell of it, it's easy to hold and easy to use the controls are spaced out and it is by no means fiddly. I like the quality of the snaps as long as you bear in mind certain things. Theis is not a camera for zoom use, I was singularly unimpressed with pictures through the zoom. It is also not good for pictures of people either in bright light or where the flash is needed as you get a very blanched result. That being said it performed well in low light and the high quality images had good tone and depth. I found it annoying that after taking a shot you don't get a review on the display.
I like the camera but in comparison with a 2 Megapixel Kodak 3400 sorry the Kodak wins in all departments.

Bought the Epson 850Z digital camera over a year ago, when it was almost $700. Will not pay that kind of money today. Would not recommend today, because today would buy a Nikon Coolpix 775 or a Canon digital camera.

Overall, as with most other users, I find it a comfortable & easy to use camera and picture/colour results very good.

The main frustration though is flash whiteout especially on skin. I have to be very careful not to get too close to the subject, ie it's better to stand away and crop the subject on PC. May invest in separate flash unit.

Only other negative is don't emerse it in Beer! I did last year and had to send it away for repair. The potential cost was horrible, however Epson lost ...

Bought the Epson 850Z after reading an enthusiastic review and have never looked back. Very comfortable camera to hold, robust and the two manuals are very informative and comprehensive.
    An excellent buy second hand

The Epson 850Z is very much a good enthusiasts camera, a good way to get into digital photography. Allows you to mess about with all settings manually, just like a decent SLR.
Good user options e.g. External Flash mount, add on lenses make this an excellent buy for established camera users getting into Digital.

I bought this camera mid july 2000 and it has been an excellent buy. The image quality is top notch. It is a mid-range camera with professional features. It includes Rechargeable batteries and charger which becomes very handy. It's very simple to set-up and connect to a PC using a USB connection. The design and feel of the camera are aimed at more serious digital camera users.

Produces good results but is a pain to use. Not bad, but not recommended.
