Nosferatu - This is an absolute horror classic, a genre-defining feat of cinema. It isn't scary by today's standards, but you can imagine at the time people must have been petrified at F.W. Murnau's version of the Dracula tale. Nosferatu looks genuinely evil and creepy and the sets and settings create an atmosphere of terror and decay as the village is ravaged by a mysterious illness, caused by the "Vampyre" who then brings his plague from Eastern Europe to the home of the woman with whom he is obsessed.
The film uses the plague of the vampire to symbolise plague-ravaged nineteenth century Europe which dealt with Cholera, Tuberculosis, Diptheria and a whole host of infectious diseases related to crowding, hygeine and war.
It's genuinely creepy and captivating and fans of the horror genre should definitely check it out!
