Good Points: Good story, stands up after 73 years, still scary.
Bad Points: Very old film and it looks its age.
General comments: I just set up a home theatre with an 80-inch wide screen and inaugurated with the classic of all time-King Kong. Very close to a theatre experience, and after 100's of viewings throughout my lifetime, I wasn't expecting to jump when Kong first hove into view and got the closeup that sent moviegoers screaming out of their seats and down the aisles in 1933, but I did.
It's the classic boy meets girl, boy loses girl, boy fights to win girl back and loses story. It's about a giant ape that attacks Manhattan, the first of a genre that continues to this day. You don't really root for Kong, but you do sympathize, this was the genius touch that has made this movie live for 3/4 of a century.
When Peter Jackson's version premieres in December 2005, it's going to be compared, probably unfavorably, with the original. I hope he does the orginal justice.
