“BMW M5 Luxury & Speed”

★★★★★

written by on 08/02/2014

I own a 2006 BMW M5. It is a fantastic car very comfortable and very fast with its 500 HP V10 - E60 engine. The SMG transmission takes a little getting used to but once you master it it is really fun to go thru the 7 gears paddle-shifting. My car has a heads-up display making it very convenient when using the built in GPS navigation as the directions show up right in front of you. Repairs are pricey - so be sure and get a used M5 checked out by a mechanic and run a CarFax. Also MPG are low but I get 18 mpg on the freeway using cruise control and 12-14 mpg in town traffic depending if I keep the beast reigned in by driving in automatic mode vs manual mode. This is truly a luxury high performance auto and for the dollar you can not find more HP bang for your buck!!

Performance is great, runs smooth. Is a lot of fun on the open road. safety features are spectacular. Although it cannot go at its full potential and give you the best of its ability, what is available to you is more than enough anyway.

I've had my $92,000 Blue 2006 BMW M5 for less than 7 hours, so what do I know except I can't wait to get in it tomorrow morning! I might just get in it tonight again and take it for a spin. I can't believe I did this, but I can't work up any buyer's remorse either.... it's already spectacular, and it only has like 40 miles on it.

Considering the BMW M5 is the most powerful production sedan in the world, and has been ever since it was produced. All those sily people who think you wouldn't like to buy a german car, i suggest serious mental therapy.

oh how you are wrong, the BMW M5 (E39) has 400hp and 500Nm, the mercedes S65 AMG sedan has 612hp and 700Nm, so the M5 isn't the most powerful production sedan. It is a nice car though.

“When you have owned a few really nice cars, you tend...”

★★★★★

written by Ade. on 16/03/2003

When you have owned a few really nice cars, you tend to notice that there is a league table. This league table is split into three, generally speaking. In each league there is a'genre' of vehicle. In the lowest league you get cars that neither inspire or satisfy the soul. They do their job with no character, they just are good cars. In the middle league, they start giving a taste of that 'X Plus'. They will do something very well and deliver more than the they promise on the can. Then you have the league all manufacturers aspire to. In this league you have those very special cars that do so much, so well, that they stand so far above the crowd that no matter what the seasoned critics or reviewers write, you can really only appreciate the experience from behind the wheel.
Having just bought a 2001 Le Mans Blue M5, I can tell you this is true. I read all the reviews I could find before spending my £36 grand on my 14 month old piece of automotive viagra and nothing prepares you for the experience.
Let me wallow in it for a moment . . when people ask you always explain it is 5 litres of 400 brake horsepower 32 valve BMW, followed by a sinister little chuckle. Women get squidgy, guys get jealous, hot-hatchers get annoyed and Porsche/Ferrari owners dont bother just in case. If you need the numbers, read a review from a magazine for the 0-60 in 4.8, the 100 in 11.5 and 1/4 in 13.3. What they cant explain is the feeling you get driving an M5. Authority, ability, safety, and an immense turn on caused by the sheer contempt that this car has for the limits you normally expect. The M5 owner is privileged to experience what is lauded as the best saloon car in the world. I've had a few, and I agree. Wholeheartedly. Get one now.

You do not know your cars at all mate.
Your pathetic cruising around in that stinking German piece of rubbish!!!
If you want a proper car mate you go and buy British, e.g MG, ROVER, JAGUAR etc.
oh and just for the record your BMW M5 will get torn to pieces by the superb MG Xpower Sv.
Oh and remind me how many dents you have got in your Beemer as it is like a tank trying to do a 3 point turn.
MG ZR 160 is 10 times better!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have owned a 2002 M5 for about a year now-the 5th BMW in a row and by far the best. (Also more reliable than the 2 previous 540s).
Fuel approx 24-25 mpg on motorway, 21-22 clogging it along fast but winding lanes, and when in traffic-use a smaller car!!
Great to drive-but be warned suspension much firmer than 540-rear seat passengers feel car sick when driven "enthusiastically".
A friend who owns a Porsche 911 turbo was staggered when he drove the M5-as fun to drive as his Porshe when flooring it-but smooth, quiet and silky for long trips/taking granny to church etc. Tried an M3 first-great along the lanes but very noisy and harsh on a motorway-not such a Jeckel and Hyde car as the M5.

Hey RJ Morris, welcome to the club. 2002 year M5 should be V.nice. Make sure you get the extended BMW warranty on an M5 - otherwise don't buy it. Also go to http://www.bm3w.co.uk
It's the best M-Power forum (no Rover drivers allowed!!!)

I have just read the comments, very interesting!! I am about to purchase a 2002 plate, I asked the dealer why the current owner is selling and he said that he has run out of points in his licence. I have owned a few nice cars in my time time and I can honestly say, I can't wait.

Interesting points of view expressed above. I have owned lots of cars, French, British (well the Austin Metro was British when built), Italian and German and I can honestly say when it comes to bomb proof build, all round performance and a quiet kind of cool, the Germans are the ones to beat.
German know how to build cars - who invented the VW Beetle, the Porsche 356 Speedster how many times have Audi won Le Mans?
My point is I have just bought a silver 2000 year M5 and it is AMAZING - this car is a stormer in every sense. I\'ve driven a MG ZT160 and for the money it gives you performance (in a straight line) but the M5 exists on a higher plane. Hasselbank to Sunday league player? - no comparison.

YOU ARE AN IDIOT MATE, of course you would rather prefer a jag rover etc.. because by the way you talk you obviously cannot afford a car of the calibre of the M5. You really dont know your cars do you, BMW M5 FASTEST AND MOST POWERFUL SEDAN IN THE WORLD SINCE IT WAS PRODUCED. Put that in your pipe and smoke it

I'm all for english motors but MG's and Rovers are cheap, awful and compared to the M5 they're nothing. They're slow performers. These cars don't need any electronic limiter because they don't go fast enough.

Cheap price tag = Cheap performance

and a jag is for an old man.

Sorry but i think this review is perfectly good. Its informative and also gives potential M5 owners an insight into good aspects of having the vehicle. And if you think an MG is a proper car, think again.

Tommy - MG & Rover thanks to BMW, Jaguar thanks to Ford. Tommy - get an education and a life while you're at it. By the way, rubbish M5 ? Get a Rover ! He He He. The only stink is burning rubber from the M5 & your bull `left in it's dust! 2/10. Try night school.

Tommy's reply is revealing. Tommy is obviously in a world where 3 point turns and Rovers are his ultimate dream. One day, Tommy will achieve his ultimate goal. Kissing a real girl.
Tommy - you are special - don't believe them.
