Good Points: Great story Fantastic settings Passes the test of time
Bad Points: None!
General comments: Willy Wonka and The Chocolate Factory is an all-time classic book that has successfully made the transition to the big screen. The Roald Dahl tale will capture the imagination of young and old alike as it follows the film's hero, Charlie, and his hunt for the elusive Golden Ticket.
The film remains fairly faithful to the book, and while there are obvious changes to some details, the general premise of the story remains the same. The Sci-Fi type sets do not disappoint as the film does a good job of bringing Dahl's chocolate factory vision to the screen in this larger than life movie. There is also plenty of music to help maintain the film's fun-loving tempo which gives the picture a Disney-type feel.
With such a good book to base this film on, it's no wonder that Warner Brothers have produced a hit, all the essential ingredients remain intact such as Charlie's rags to riches journey, the borderline bonkers Wonka and of course those lovable rogues the Oompalumpas!
In conclusion, this is top-notch family viewing and if you haven't seen the film or read the book then I strongly suggest you do both! You should also keep your eyes open for the next adaptation of this tale which is due to hit cinemas this year starring the ever-impressive Johnny Depp who is set to wow audiences with another versatile turn, this time as the insane Willy Wonka.
