The Secret Garden is a great film interpretation of the famous book by Frances Hodgson Burnett. Most parts of the film remain true to the original story, whilst the actors add fantastic representations of the characters. I thought the child actors gave particularly realistic performances that really drew you in to the story.
Set in the English countryside, The Secret Garden follows a young girl, Mary Lennox, as she leaves her home in India following a tragedy involving her parents. When she arrives in England to live with her uncle (who is also dealing with his own losses), she creates a distinct impression on those around her with her stubborn and bitter ways. However, as she discovers the secrets of her new home with Dickon and the sickly Colin, she grows to appreciate how lucky she is to have found her new home. Eventually she shows the kindness to those around her that was shown to her from certain characters from the beginning.

I cannot believe that The Secret Garden hasn't received any reviews yet. I absolutely loved this film when I was younger, and it's still in my video collection.

Based around a girl called Mary Lennox, who after growing up in India with her parents and losing them in an earthquake, is sent to live with her reclusive uncle in England. After a brief meeting with her Uncle, who is still mourning the loss of his wife 10 years previous, Mary is left to her own accord to wander the gardens and do as she pleases. She finds a key and the most magical secret garden, and with the help of a friendly robin and one of the servants brothers, Dickon, they restore it and learn the secrets of the manor along the way.

It's a great film, and Kate Maberly plays Mary brilliantly, starting off as a bitter selfish girl, who hasn't ever dressed herself, to a young girl capable of loving once again. It's a great family, feel good film, set in the English countryside!
