Good Points: I have a 2.4 Ghz / year 2003. It works very good, it is very stable.
Bad Points: It has problems with the cooling system, it is too noisy and always the temperature of the computer is hot. It is too heavy.
General comments: Enjoy it until it crashes, in general I am happy with my classical "portable PC"

It is a strong machine. It can take a bullet. I would call it a portable PC. As long as one has muscles and good will this machine can move around with its user. Still it can be positively heavy in a briefcase or a bag.
I would recommend HP Compaq 2100 Presario as an alternative to a desktop at home.

Don't even think about buying the HP Compaq 2100 Presario, it cost more to repair than the price its worth.

My Presario 2100 was actually a replacement for my 1700 model which crashed so many times. I had no problems with it for about a month until it crashed. After that initial crash the computer was rebooted and crashed several more times. I had to buy another hard drive for it and even after that the computer's performance was still horrible. I wouldn't recommend this computer even for the most basic user. The time it takes to do the most basic application on it is ridiculous. Save yourself the tim ...

Bottom line: This laptop is stable. If you are looking for something cheap, and basic in terms of pc portability then buy the presario 2100. Otherwise, it is extremely slow and poorly built. I regret purchasing my presario. You get what you pay for! Beware!

This is a good laptop. You can rely on the company, and it is good value for money. It has never broken down so far, and I have been using it since February 2005. the only problem I have had is that the battery calibration is very bad. The laptop continues to work for 1 hour after the battery meter shows 0% available.

My hard drive crashed after 7 weeks of using the HP Compaq 2100 Presario. after getting the hard drive replaced, the computer wouldn't recognize my wireless router, it recognized other routers (everything else stayed constant during the time the hard drive was replaced).
HP was unable to solve the issue over the phone. 8 hours spent with them. they then asked to get the laptop back.
as of now the issue has yet to be resolved and I'm using an Ethernet cable.
after 4 months of owning t ...

I got it for $700 with a celeron 1.7G in 02/2003. I can't expect more with so such money. Remember Compaq built the world first laptop, you are assured to use it with confidence.

The Compaq presario 2100 has sturdy construction, is feature packed and exceptional good value bought from PC world. Extended warranty option taken just in case as I have my dektop on pc worlds ext warranty and have made a few claims no probs. Worth a flutter.
