Good Points: One of the most realistic portrayals of combat in Vietnam.
Excellent acting by Defoe and Berenger
Bad Points: The moral of the story takes over the plot at times and the Charlie Sheen voiceovers are patronising and irrelevant. You can work it out for yourself.
General comments: Story about a new recruit (Charlie Sheen) joining a combat platoon in Vietnam which - under a weak lieutenant - splits into two and starts fighting amongst themselves against the backdrop of the wider fighting with the NVA. Well worth watching for the excellent performances of Willem Dafoe and Tom berenger as to the two warring sergeants. There are also a surprisingly high number of recognisable actors playing the other soldiers in the platoon.
The backdrops and fighting sequences are well sourced and plotted.
Not as good as Full Metal Jacket - but definitely worth a look.

Platoon - This film portrays a very good and realistic feeling on how the Vietnam Ear was. The gruesome details just made it even better. The picture was perfect, and the scary but real details had a very strong impact on how I felt about the Vietnam War. This is definitely my favorite war film of all, for sure 100 percent.- Read Bojangles's review (84 words and 1 comment)
