Along with the Bridge on the River Kwai this is another great war film that all self-respecting individuals should watch at one time in their lives. The Great Escape tells the story of a group of Allied POWs in a Nazi prison camp who plan and execute a mass escape. The all-star cast provide great performances all round and McQueen is at his best - this coupled with a great score and a very believable setting help create this much loved film. I won't spoil the plot by going into too many details but there is plenty of tense action, shocks, sadness and pride on show here and you can't help getting caught up with the flow of the film.

Make sure you catch it this Christmas as it is always pretty much guaranteed to be on one of the channels this year.
