Good Points: Brilliant acting and tense storyline
Bad Points: None.
General comments: One of the top ten best war films ever made.
Film is in two halves. First half portrays Marine bootcamp and the training the soldiers undertake. The Marine Sergeant is/was actually a real life Marine Sergeant and not an actor. Brilliant lines and a twist in it ( I say no more).
The 2nd part is the story of the battle of Hue in (what was South) Vietnam - and tells out the guerilla warfare style battle there - boobytraps; female snipers; fear etc.
It's brutal and minimal - no glamourising war here in any respect.
The film is sourced from the excellent book 'The Short-timers' by Gustav Hasford and this is well worth reading too.
