Good Points: Great special effects, good cast with Willis hamming it up.

Bad Points: Can't get that song out of my head.

General comments: Described by one critic as "Die Hard in Space", this rollercoaster ride has Bruce Willis saving the world from a meteor ( the size of Texas ). Sounds familiar?
Well "Deep Impact" has already been down the same road except we seem to get more bangs at the beginning with this one and alas not any tv faces to spot ( except a head doctor from "ER" ).
Amazing special effects again seem to over shadow the story with Willis as oil driller "Harry S Stamper" first having father/daughter problems with Liv Tyler who is involved with another rigger played by Ben "Good Will Hunting" Affleck.

Directed by Michael "The Rock" Bay the action never lets up with lots of one liners especially from Bruce. The destruction of cities ( New York, Paris & Shanghai ) are impressive and it doesn't take a genius to work out the ending.

Also stars Billy Bob Thornton who heads up NASA and Steve "Con Air" Buscemi who seems to enjoy bumpy movie rides and uses the "Beam me up Scotty" line in this space adventure. Good to see another female shuttle pilot like in Deep Impact - just a coincidence !

Entertaining Hollywood stuff despite over 2 hours plus.

Director Michael Bay known mainly for hit cop thriller 'Bad Boys' and the action packed 'The Rock' returns once again to the big screen with the 'Environmental / Nature' epic that is Armageddon.
Armageddon is the epic 'Environmental /Nature' film that shows how Earth is danger of being destroyed from a approaching Comet and that it's up to a group greasy, dirty oil workers lead by Bruce Willis to save the existence of mankind. A lost case it may seem and furthur so, the mentioned 'Best Drillers ...

Before I start on this crud, let me just say that The Curmudgeon is not a movie snob. It doesn't have to be black and white with subtitles for me to love it. I love big, dumb action movies as much as anyone - Good, big dumb action movies. Arnie movies (well, some) spring to mind, or Face Off - dumb as a bag of rocks, but still cool.

Then there's this. It's dumb, it's loud - and it's really, really bad.

So the world's going to end, a big meteor is gonna come smashing into earth. Who ya gonn ...

When an asteroid is discovered to be on a collision course with earth, who ya gonna call? Bruce Willis of course! The basic premise of Armageddon is pretty far fetched. A team of loud, roughneck deep core drillers are sent into outer space to land on an asteroid hurtling through space, attempt to drill into iron ferrous rock, insert a nuclear warhead, blow the aforementioned asteroid to smithereens thus saving the planet. And that is pretty much the plot. It is complemented by a sub plot of roma ...
