Good Points: Good battery life. Bright screen. Excellent ergonomics. Great for nightime shots with long shutter times. Has that typical top quality Sony feel about it.

Bad Points: None that spring to mind!

General comments: I've had this Sony DSC-S50 digital camera for close on 3 years at the time of writing this review, so its had a good testing! Its a brilliant camera that i've taken over 6000 shots with in all weather conditions. Super reliable and capable of superb images, its a camera that you can grow with, as it has features that i'm still finding out about after owning it for so long. It can be as easy to use as a "point and shoot", or you can get really creative with it. All in all, a great camera.

The Sony DSC-S50 camera works well for still shots both up-close and landscapes. Action shots leave a lot to be desired. The shutter speed is too slow. Without a view finder in the bright light it is hard to see what you are shooting so it's best to take extra shots then review after you get in the shade or indoors.

I got this Camera Second hand from a local shopfor only £129.00 with 3 months warr.

Its The best camera I have ever owned, I have been a big fan of Fuji Digital cameras for the last 4+ years, but this Sony DSC-S50 is the dogs gonads, The screen is the best I have seen. Plus you can rotate it to almost any angle. The extra user setable features are very good. even the 640*480 pics come out good, I can set it to 1600*1200 and use it as a "scanner", plus the text mode comes in handy when I ...

Bought the Sony DSC S50 camera last year and was very happy with how it performs. The menu is easy to navigate compared to my bro's Canon Digital Elph/S100.
Battery life is long and this compensate with the absence of view finder. Picture quality is very good and macro mode is fantastic, 3cm from lens!!. The zoom lens moves internally and it's also very quiet.
All in all, you will not regret getting this camera although it's bigger than the Digital Elph/S100.

Very easy to use and has great manual settings, the only two things that let this camera down are the memory stick size (I upgraded to a 64Mb) and the long focus times (around 3 secs).
If I were in the market again for a digi camera I'd certainly look favourably at the DSC S50.

The Sony DSC-S50 has a LCD screen instead of a viewfinder. This screen can be turned and angled to suit you or the image you are taking. For instance, you can take a self-portrait whilst holding the camera giving total control.
As well as taking still pictures you can also film 15 second video clips with sound.
You can view your still pictures on the camera either as single pictures, as thumbnail size pictures or as a slide show. You can also play back your video clip on the LCD scre ...
