Good Points: Cheap to own, run, and maintain. £ for £, a better car than the Golf 8v gti, escort rst, et al.
Bad Points: Understeer (which leads to lift off over steer if you try ;) ) Clutch can be heavy owing to release bearing siezing, wheel arches and sills prone to rust!
General comments: I have owned this Vauxhall Astra 1.8 SRi MK2 car for eight years (since I was 19) and it has only left me stranded twice. Once the rotor arm wore out, and once with a fuel leak. Both down to inproper maintenance. I have thrashed the car hard through out its life and done 80k in it (totalling to 130k) and the only problem with the engine is an oil leak. It has sadly come to the end of its life due to body corrosion, but I loved the car. I know three other people who owned an SRi MK2 astra, and they regret selling - It is the best car young money can buy.

Didn't always run great, lumpy idle which had been a problem looking at the service history for a few years but nobody seemed able to fix it (Including major Vauxhall Main dealer!) but when she wanted to go, she really did put in the perfo ...

Had this Vauxhall Astra 1.8 SRi mk2 car for a short time because i just didn't like the thing, power output was a little disappointing when an xr3i has just 4 bhp less out of a 1.6, and is just as quick if not a bit quicker. Handling was the major dissapointment, after i drove a mates XR there was no comparrison. It was a little unreliable, in the mornings i didn't know if it was going to start, sometimes it didn't and sometimes it only just.Rust was also taking over, both wheel arches were flak ...
