“I have owned this Vauxhall Astra 1.8 SRi MK2 car for...”

I have owned this Vauxhall Astra 1.8 SRi MK2 car for eight years (since I was 19) and it has only left me stranded twice. Once the rotor arm wore out, and once with a fuel leak. Both down to inproper maintenance. I have thrashed the car hard through out its life and done 80k in it (totalling to 130k) and the only problem with the engine is an oil leak. It has sadly come to the end of its life due to body corrosion, but I loved the car. I know three other people who owned an SRi MK2 astra, and… Read Full Review

Had my Vauxhall Astra 1.8 SRi mk2 for about 8 months, and in that time convered about 14000 miles. Few things went wrong, got through 5 alternators (Good thing about Vauxhalls being that the alternators are readily available from scrappies at next to nothing!) Didn't always run great, lumpy idle which had been a problem looking at the service history for a few years but nobody seemed able to fix it (Including major Vauxhall Main dealer!) but when she wanted to go, she really did put in the… Read Full Review

I have an mk3 astra gsi and I am running a standerd 2.0 redtop pushing 150bhp. I have raced more powerfull cars and have out run them on top end 148-150mph. Your car has a lower final dive gearbox, and less power so unless the engine and gearbox had some work done on it I dont believe your car reached 137mph. And i hear the speedos on the mk2s seem to lie. Try racing an mk3 gsi and see if you stay next to it at 130mph.

Well I did actually see 140 on the clock once, on the M25 in top gear on the rev limiter - so if someone can work out what that should be on the standard gearing on the standard rev limit and standard wheels and tyres we'll know for sure!

In defence of the MKII SRi, until you've owned one,you won't understand how it makes you feel. Who cares about incorrect readings on the speedo, when you're over taking cars that a 15 year old car shouldn't be. I've had a reading of 134 on mine, is it so inaccurate the I could have only be doing 105? or could I have been doing somewhere around 130, it's close enough to satisfy me!!!

Had this Vauxhall Astra 1.8 SRi mk2 car for a short time because i just didn't like the thing, power output was a little disappointing when an xr3i has just 4 bhp less out of a 1.6, and is just as quick if not a bit quicker. Handling was the major dissapointment, after i drove a mates XR there was no comparrison. It was a little unreliable, in the mornings i didn't know if it was going to start, sometimes it didn't and sometimes it only just.Rust was also taking over, both wheel arches were… Read Full Review
