I had my series 2 rs turbo back in 1995, I paid £4200 it was only 5 years old at the time and was the last of the series two's with the facelift front bumper and rear spoiler (with the holes in), it was mercury grey, 42000 miles, i bought it off an american guy who worked for nasa and was a captain in the US airforce in guildford of all places..... driving it home was so exciting, i was only 21 and it felt like a "propper" sports car..... believe it or not to this day its my favorite car of… Read Full Review

Ive owned my RS S2 for 14 years now, spend around 14k on it, but overall its a real stunner, jet black and absoulutely mint. Only comes out twice a year. Real head turner.

The cars are really great in almost every sense, its more of an addiction to drive than your usual run of the mill shed. Looked after and worked on to get and keep in top condition you will probably make any money back you spent if you sell it on. When buying make sure its not a rust bucket or has major welding done (check under the mats, battery tray, in the boot, have a prod underneath). In fact just take someone who knows thar stuff with you and get it hpi checked. Most of all though, if you… Read Full Review

The rs turbo is a fantastic car in pretty much every way I own a series 1 and I love it they are just great I've had 18 cars in last 6 years and this is the only one I've liked and kept for 2 years but its not all fun they do have there problems so you need a good general knowledge of cars to own one or you are gonna have some very expensive garage bills. My advice is if your thinking of buying one go for it but just take your time when looking as there are some dogs out there as well as nice… Read Full Review

I bought a Ford Escort RS Turbo S2 90 spec 12 month's ago my dream car ever since I was a kid. I paid 2 grand for her 89k documented, full service history 3 lady owners, every MOT from new, Clifford alarm with certificate's, faultless interior and thought it was mint or so it looked on the outside. Then MOT time, it failed on corrosion! After stripping it back to a shell to see how bad it was I was gutted to find it was as rotten as a peach. I am now 6 months on and is taking a hell of a long… Read Full Review

I always wanted a White Lightning series 1 RS turbo and after selling my second RS1600i finally got one only to realize the example I bought was a dog and struggled to get shot of it when I did I managed to buy a fantastic series 2 RS Turbo to replace it. This car was so good I sold it for £1000 more a year later. I only parted with it after it got broke into and my expensive stereo was stolen. I used to love the sound of the Turbo cutting in and even though the series 1 looked better the… Read Full Review

I own a grey H reg Escort RS Turbo had it for 6 years still going well, over the years I've nearly replaced everything you can think of just to get it perfect as new its in show room condition car as I always wanted one being my dream car when I was at high school back in 1991, I bought it bog standard keeping the original looks but uprating the engine, brakes and spax dampers using std springs. Its kicking out only 185 bhp 200 torque and believe me it kills wrx subaru's and I suprisingly… Read Full Review

Mboon's Response to rscharger's Review

Written on: 14/03/2006

Good review but I dont think your telling the hole truth about the M3? I have a RS Turbo on my drive and its standard and yes its still quick, I have a mate who had one with the same brake kicking out as yours and my standard RS stayed with it. I had a cousin who has 232 bhp which is the most I think you can get from the 1.6 CVH engine. That was very very quick off the mark but wouldnt touch the M3 down the motorway. I know this as I have a M3. If anything the RS tuned would have a better chance off the lights. Down the motorways is where the M3 is in its prime. They are higher geared and pretty much cain anything in its class or below. Even evos etc wont keep up with a M3 when they get in the higher gears as I am sure many people on here will tell you. Also the M3 is more than capable of hitting the 155mph limiter which unless you have a 2.0 Cowsworth engine or a totally mad tuned 1.6 i dont think you would hit 155. I had around 130 out of my RS and this car was standard. putting it another point it hasnt had the gear ratio tuned and changed so it goes like a rocket of the lights and lacks in the top half. Basicly I am a great fan of RS Turbos and I love the cars hence why I have one on my drive but if the M3 put his foot down it would blow the RS away. The Cosworth is a diffrent story. But now they are ageing people are finding the engines are not as spritly as they where. Any ways keep the RS in good condition as its guys like you that keep them on the road for people like me to admire. Cheers mate

Mk3 Turbs's Response to rscharger's Review

Written on: 16/12/2010

As for an M3 beating an RS Turbo, it can be done, and has been done many times. I have owned too many to list here and in all variants (Orions, Vans, Cabriolets & hatchbacks all turbo converted with an RS turbo engine) If you get a Transmision services box built by Bernie with transit bearings, longer final drive (out of an Orion) and fith gear (from a Newer Escort) fitted into a deisel Escort box the car is then good for over 155MPH! the new box will handle over 350 BHP so anything that you can throw at it. it will set you back around £1500 but well worth it if you have over 240 BHP like I did (any more is just undriveable). There are many other similar boxes that have been available for a long time and for less money, the first performance box I bought was £800 and lasted till I sold it with the car, that Escort did 145 MPH easy - the needle was all the way round on the speedo all the way to the stop pin at 140! with 500RPM left before redlining! Raising the rev limmit to get more top end is easy, Do not underestimate the Escort, it only weighs in at 1400KG (1.4 Tonns) and with a good box will wet on nearly all the modern assisted cars of today. It is very possible that the car in the above review was fitted with one of these uprated box's as it is a recognised weak point in an amazing car. Obviously they need the engine tuned and the brakes uprated somewhat aswell. They are now classic but the boy racers keep killing them so if you have a good one then look after it and enjoy it, I still like seeing the faces of BMW,Audi & ricer drivers when they realize they have just been beat by a mere 1.6 engine.

I bought a Ford Escort RS Turbo stage 2 on an F plate around two years ago with FFSH but was in red and had the problem with the fading which was resolved with some handy work from Ed Short who I recomend with bodywork. Unfortunetly I have only driven this car for about 4 months! But that four months of driving have been fun! I have had many problems which are down to the age of the car, the main problem being that I bought it of a bloke who didnt understand the words "put your foot down" But a… Read Full Review

Written on: 11/03/2004 by cottrellb (2 reviews written)

This is a 201 Bhp Ford Escort RS Turbo. Lightweight Mk3 shell with mk 4 running gear tipping the scales at just under 1000Kg. It has Cosworth brakes, koni suspension, and 16 inch wheels.

This is a really fast car. It has terrible handling and torque steer to challenge pop eye. It a straight line it is fast, if you can hold it in a straight line! Inside it squaks rattles and bangs. It is just unthinkable.
If you can afford to look after one and it certainly aint cheep! then buy a better car to… Read Full Review

Nitrosurf460's Response to cottrellb's Review

Written on: 19/05/2005

Evidently yours is just badly set up. I've known several RS owners, including the president of the local RS club whose son had a 196BHP series2 RS like yours. It went like stink but handled lovely, run rings around many modern performance hatches and saloons due to its low-slung stance and light weight. If yours rattles it's because you haven't maintained the interior trim, and if it has torque steer your suspension, drive transfer and transmission are incorrectly fitted and/or set up. If you can't do the stuff yourself try a company called Interpro, they're suppose to work wonders with RS Fords.
<br>Good Luck, and don't swap to a 'looks like everything else' modern car.

Written on: 02/03/2004 by turboJOE (2 reviews written)

I have owned a Ford Escort RS Turbo for two years and never regretted buying it. I got it near enough standard and have since added: hearts & diamonds brain, T3 hybrid, wired in 5th injector, full stainless and cone filter, uprated actuator, dump valve, and vernier pulley. this is enough to give it a healthy 200-odd bhp.

Body wise, it is a grey 90 spec example, the only mods being clear indicators, smoked rears and 1/2 leather recaros. To look at, I reckon it looks so much better than other… Read Full Review
