Good Points: A relatively simple, compact, point and shoot 5MP camera with optical viewfinder, long battery life, weather resistant - meaning you may use it in the rain.
Bad Points: Slow to write to file after pressing the exposure button, slow to power up, proprietary Olympus XD memory card instead of a more standard SD memory.
General comments: I've taken this little camera almost everywhere, comfortable with it even in rainy weather. Nice little workhorse of a relatively simple camera.

When the flash is turned off on my Olympus Mju-400 digital camera, everything that moves is just a blurr. I had a situation in a church where no flash should been used; the bride walked in as a white blurr, and animal shots without a flash are just impossible. They are actually out of the picture completely by the time the picture is taken. I just wish I had more control over the shutter speed.

Bought the Olympus Mju-400 at around £300 18 months ago. Now keeps turning itself off cost of repair around the £90 mark just short of what a similar camera would now cost! Ok so prices have dropped but best part of £200 for 18 Mths use as a general family camera i.e. say a couple of hundred shots in that time.

Man, I gotta tell ya about what happened to my Mju-400 the other day. It is an "All weather" camera but when I took it sea-kayaking and put it into a supposedly waterproof pouch, for some reason water got into the pouch filling it up IMMERSING this camera along with other things in water. I thought the camera would definitely be screwed after that but to my amazement, it did not affect the camera whatsoever - it is still working perfectly. I thought "All weather" meant shower resistant, but this ...

The Olympus Mju-400 is ideal for someone who wants to point and shoot and get great results. It has produced some fantastic pictures for me in various conditions. Although I'm sure a top quality digital SLR would obviously be better, as a general purpose camera this is better than good, and it has the advantage of being so easy to carry around.
The only minor points I'd like to point out are that the camera only uses its own battery, whereas some similar cameras are capable of using alkaline ...

I needed a compact digital camera that could be used on a beach or up a mountain in all weathers. There was a very limited choice, basically the Pentax WR33 or Olympus mju300/400. I picked the Olympus Mju-400 because I already own an Olympus C-4000 zoom. My computer uses Windows XP and is loaded with Camedia Master 4.0.
The mju400 is supplied with Master 4.1, however this camera works perfectly with the early 4.0 version. Also I have found that the poach for a film mju II 35mm f2.8 fits.

The Olympus Mju-400 is a shocking release by one of the world\'s finest camera maufacturers. Olympus have managed to pull-off a fine looking camera aimed at the point and shoot brigade. The build quality is excellent, robust but small and all of the openings/ports are hidden away behind neat panels, but that\'s where its plus points end. The camera rarely takes pin-sharp pictures, perhaps 4 out of ten are just about acceptable but not great quality. You also have to close the lens cover before i ...
