Good Points: Sublime, haunting, timeless.
Bad Points: Not long enough.
General comments: Toumani Diabate, New Ancient Strings (Nouvelle Cordes Anciennes): I do not know much of African music so I went into Sterns and said I wanted a CD with Kora, a (kind of harp/guitar) on it. This is what I returned home with, it consists of 2 Kora players playing in an airy stone/concrete room in Mali, no effects (none needed.) These instruments I think are often used to accompany singers but they sing themselves. The tracks go straight to my heart, I can't describe them other than to say that a virtuoso guitarist could produce about a quarter of the feeling that these instruments make in the hands of these masters, buy it and I promise you an experience that will make you want to move to Mali.
