Good Points: Looks, Price, Auto Facility

General comments: I bought this Pioneer receiver last Saturday as an entry into home cinema. Having done the tour of specialist shops and having my ear drums explode after several demonstrations of kit costing several thousands of pounds, my main criteria was that any receiver we bought would have to fit into the tele cabinet along with the Philips DVDR880 and the Sky decoder(thus pleasing she that must be obeyed). I thought that it was an impossible task until a visit to Leeds and a look in SuperFi's window proved me wrong.
There it was....the Pioneer VSX-C100. Looked good, slim as anything, and on sale for £149.99
(last one by the way).
Hmmmmm....speakers now !
We chose the Wharfedale Moviestar 60+ package not least because they were selling it for £99.99 (RRP £299.99)but also because it comes in a real wood finish.
Sunday was spent setting the whole thing up and then in the evening we decided to watch Saving Private Ryan. WWWWWOOOOOWWWWWW.
It was incredible.
It was, to my novice ears, just as good as anything that people had tried to sell me for ten times the price that I had paid.
Having tried to be clever and overide the receiver to better the sound I have realised that just leave it on auto and it does it for you.

For £200 this Pioneer VSX-C100 amp provides a good entry into Home Cinema. Combined with Pioneers own speakers however the sound is let down. I would recommend to purchase the amp seperate of any package deal and buy a quality speaker system.
The sound quality through my Sony SA-VE335 speakers is excellent, music reproduction is perfectly acceptable although a separate hi-fi system is still the best choice.
