Verve, Urban Hymns - Am I the only one who doesn't really get the fuss over this Verve album in comparison to the others? There are some blinding and moving moments, namely the singles "Bittersweet Symphony" and "The Drugs Don't Work," but really the rest of the album runs into itself as one semi-psychedelic, plodding MOR rock dirge. The Verve were always at their best when they were veering towards shoegazer rather than Oasis yob-rock. I can see why this album was more accessible than their others as it is certainly far more immediate, but in terms of quality, it's just not there.
