Good Points: Reasonably-priced way of getting some vintage Tower into your collection.
Bad Points: Not the best 'best of', but the opposition's much more expensive...
General comments: Tower Of Power, The Very Best of Tower of Power - This is not so much a 'best of' as an overview of the band's years with Warner Bros. records. It omits earlier tracks like 'Sparkling in the Sand', and later tracks like 'Rhythm & Business', but on the other hand, if my memory serves me well, it does contain all the hit singles (But not all the 'b' sides).
As with all 'Best of', it tries, and fails, to be everything to everyone. On their regular albums the band tend to restrict the number of ballads, whereas on this album, because of the disproportionate number of hits they had with ballads, there's rather a lot, which breaks up the funk-fest. 'Below Us, All the City Lights', for instance, may not appeal to those who come in for 'Down to the Nightclub', or the all-time classic 'What is Hip?', but it's still worth a listen. And if you can't think of at least four movies where the big finish would have been a far better choice than the background music they did use, then you don't go to the movies much!
Overall, an excellent primer for those new to ToP, but I suspect that after listening, you're going to want to buy up the entire back catalogue, or at least the Rhino 'Anthology' double album.
Look on the bright side. At least you'll know 'What is Hip'.
