Good Points: Some powerful fusion interplay by some of the Gods of fusion music. Birds of Fire and One Word are the highlights.
Bad Points: Some of it is a little esoteric.
General comments: A Mahavishnu Orchestra, Birds of Fire Review - One of the things that is most exciting about Fusion is the soloing interplay. If you take a song like One Word and listen to it as it goes through it's three parts, it is very exciting music. The interplay between McLaughlin, Goodman and Hammer. I've heard that McLaughlin was not a big fan of the interplay and considering he wrote all the songs, that may be the case. But to me it is what makes Fusion the most exciting. Goodman and Hammer went on to form a duo to explore this further.
Seeing Hammer move on with Al Dimeola to some incredible fusion play which DiMeola seemed to enjoy was really great. Having seen Hammer play just with a base and drum was one of the more memorable concerts I have ever seen. The guy gives you chills.
