My first brand new car bought for $4700 in 1985. Never had a minute's trouble with it and was always impressed by the size of the boot considering it was a small car. For some reason never fitted it with a radio in 7 years motoring. Fondest memories. (read more)

Excellent little car for new and old drivers alike - the Nova was one of my first cars and I still drive one to the day.
Amazing what you can squeeze into one of these little babies - a whole weeks camping equipment - 2 bikes on the back plus 3 passengers.
Economical and quite fast at pulling away.
Cheap to maintain, easy DIY, quite a rare car now - some nice modified and standard examples still around.

Excellent car for a young person starting to drive in life, economic easy to handle and if he/she some has some with about her a challenge to learn about mechanical engines obviously with some Guidance I wish a long time ago I could have had the oppertunity to take on the challenge and really learn something in my earl years . I came very close with working on an Old Ford 8 under the guidance of the 18 year old owner, a good friend. The Nova is my wifes car and she has owned it over ten... (read more)

The Vauxhall Nova 1.2 Merit is my first car, I have only driven it for about two months and I am very happy with it. I had to leave it standing for about a year and a half before I could drive it and it started up each time I went out to it. It also sailed through the M.O.T. because it is light the acceleration is decent. (read more)

I can't believe any of you guys took him seriously! I actually have a Nova GSI and it does have a 2ltr from an Astra GSI (red top) and all the gear, coilovers, digi dash, full asw strengthening kit etc but I didn't build it, it'd have cost me a fortune, its got between 150 and 170 bhp and is definitely fast enough! the looks on the faces of people with supposedly "faster" cars than the GSI is worth the price I paid for 2 or 3 fold! real wolf in sheeps clothing! I have 12" three-spoke alloys and Max Power stickers on the doors of my car. I have also invested in a blue exhaust extension and some green neons for under the car. I think the car looks mint and so does my girlfriend Debs. We are the envy of the local youth firm! (read more)

I've got a 2.5ltr V6 twin turbo Nova. The engine was from a Astra GSI, pushing 480bhp....0-60 in 4.77sec.....0-100 in 11.56sec.It has a top speed of 180mph+ Ive got 18" wheels on with arch work done.To get 18" it should cost no more than £150. I've also got £5000 of ICE in the boot so there is a lot of room. I bought the Nova for £300 it started out as a 1.2 star......now it's a 2.5ltr V6 twin turbo worth over £9000. At MAX POWER live this year (2001) it came 2nd fastest super mini there!!!... (read more)

A Nova might not be the most glamourous of cars when they are bog standard but once you slap a bodykit and some nice alloys you can make even a blind mans head turn. The trouble with novas are a lot of people have then which carries the disadvantage of finding original things to do to them. I have found a £300 front bumper which will bring other nova drivers to their knees! All Nova drivers in need of help modifying their motor should check out either www.Roybacer.co.uk or www.novaload.net (read more)

When i bought this Vauxhall Nova Merit 1.2 it was a bit run down and just needed a bit of TLC and a couple of trips to the garage to to turn it into the nippy little number it is today. If you're gonna buy one remember they are prone to rust a little so get over it and get it sorted coz it's easy to fix. I love my car and i would recommend a nova to everyone. (read more)

A lot of my mates slagged my Vauxhall Nova 1.2 merit off when i first bought it but many were shocked when i took them for a spin. They didn't expect the car to go as fast as it does. The merit is a very nippy motor and will take no garbage from any car on the pull off. You can do the car up with Spoiler, sides and wheel like myself. I also have GSI seats and a digital dash board which i installed. I have installed a hybird turbo injection which gave a Vauxall Tigra the shock of his live at... (read more)

i love my 1.2 nova merit. It looks the biz but the engine is simply too small. At the minute it's off the road awaiting repair cos its running on 3 cylinders!!!! Burnt valve???? The problem is the 1.2 engine is simply too small with a garbage carburetter (that has caused me problems) when it goes back on the road it's getting v6 disks and callipers followed by a 1.6 gsi engine, problem sorted My advice would be if you're looking to buy a nova get an SR. They have good engines, handling and... (read more)

Everyone in the world will want to overtake you. Your wheel bearings at the back will drone most of the time. If you have a manual choke be prepared for a fight in the morning. Don't overchoke or you'll flood the engine. You'll have a sore back in the soft seats on long journeys. Rust will affect the bottoms of the doors and the back arches. The suspension feels hard and engines are noisy, though not too bad compared to similar cars. The front end slides going round a corner too fast. Try... (read more)

These Vauxhall Nocva 1.2 merit cars are extremely reliable and usually start first time. They have good acceleration and are a good 'eye catcher'. Parts for this Nova are cheap and easy to get hold of.
This model of Nova, above 1991 has deep wheels so therefore making it hard to find wheel trims that fit well. The suspension is fairly poor and a CD player can be difficult to listen to on a bumpy road! The battery tray erodes fairly easily, as does the bottom of the doors. It is common to... (read more)

I've had my nova for a year now and i am very pleased with it. It's one of vauxhall's stars. I started putting alloys on it when i first got it. Now its one of the quickest cars round town with its 2.0 turbo engine and believe me when i say "IT SHIFTS". Even the rst get left behind. Great fun for a first car but i do reckon all novas need 2.0 turbo just to lively it up! (read more)

A really reliable motor. I've had no trouble from it for the 18 months I've had it and I'll keep it for a while yet. Fun, safe chassis could handle a fair bit more power. Engine is throaty sounding and revs well but is slow and needs a better gearbox - fourth is too highly geared so kills all acceleration at about 55mph. Fifth not much higher geared than fourth.
