This phone is very very impressive. I have had several phones in the past but none comes close to the build quality or features of the SL45i.
I have no words how can I describe facility of SL45. All I can say is the phone is Superb, and it seems that it will definitely become a collector's item.
If only Siemens could just listen to the consumer for once. All they have to do is upgrade the firmware and make it more stable, release a color version, add GPRS and poly sound then I'm sure they...

I've had my Siemens SL45 upgraded to an SL45i for a while now. When I first recieved the phone I was stunned by the sound quality from it, truly spectacular.
I bought it with all the accessories, as new, this included :
. Desktop Charger & Spare Mains Charger
. USB Cable
. Hard Side Case
. Earphones
Amazed by its quality of sound, and the sleek and stylish design of the phone, at the time, it was the best around.
The sleek metal as the outer case fitted the phone perfectly, and hardly...

This phone is absolutely impressive. I have had several phones in the past but none comes close to the build quality or features of the SL45i. I am presently seriously looking for a second SL45i coz my first one had some extensive water damage on the keypad. Even though it has been repaired, the side volume control still does not work, and being a perfectionist, I want a new one. I paid 299 IEP for this back in 2001. What a steaming pile! I have had three replacement phones in less than two years, which tends to rule out the "Monday Morning Lemon" theory. Siemens programmers did an excellent job when it came to animating little "Please wait" coffee cups, but as for the basics of operation: well, why should it take over ten seconds from the "You have a new text message" notification to being able to read the damned thing? My old Nokia's delay for this was less... (read more)

I mainly went for this phone for the gadgets and the SL45 is full of them. A few years ago this phone was ahead of its time. In everyday use the phone can take time to get used to and is a bit sluggish although the latest firmware is a lot better. The phone is a lot faster if you store numbers on the SIM.
The MP3 player is really good and sound quality is superb. The memory card can also store Java, backgrounds, extra midi ringtones as well as other PC files (i.e Word Documents for...

The Siemens SL45 seems to be a jumble of technical mistakes and built in obscelesence. Immediately after the one year warranty expires it starts to switch off, the screen fades, the battery fails to charge, and so on. It just falls apart. Wherever this thing is made quality is not important. Siemens seems to know that it falls apart and seem to just say that they don't care... The SL45 is one of a few phones with a built in MP3 player. With many cool applications that even other Siemens phones don't have it is har to compare. The SL45's style now is a completely matter. Me and my brother got the SL45 phones as it seemed to be feature rich and had a very large display. Sadly it has proved to be a big blunder, as the biggest issue with both phones (brought from seperate locations Europe and Singapore) that the display keeps fading off and you have to thump the left side of the phone to get it back and in case it does not you have to remove the battery and thump it and reinsert the battery.

Also noticed is that when the battery is removed suddenly it looses the most recent call lists (received and sent).

Another issue is that the MMC card tends to get loose causing the phone to crash as it stores the address and sms T9 dictionary on this card.

On the positives there is the Mp3 player which i rarely use, the dictaphone is a pretty neat feature but the quality of the recordings is very very poor unless you are recording a call and not a discussion being held in the open. The address book is pretty neat and so is the help feature.

Also I have been trying to use the integrated modem feature but it does not seem work, and I have given up trying to configure it.

I bought my SL45 in November 2001 thinking it was a state-of-the art phone(not that it's not- its a very useful and functional phone). The major irritant is the "Card Error", which virtually everyone here in Nigeria has to battle with. In the middle of a call it springs up causing you to restart the phone. It gets progressively worse (as I am getting to find out) and its pretty sad. We have an ostentatious community here and it is believed that the more expensive an item is, the better value... well Sean, everyone has there opinion, this is my piece if advice; do not get a Samsung T100, the phone has been rushed into the market to compete with nokia's colour screen phones, the colour screen soon loses it's charm as the menu is boring and bland. The only other thing this phone has is it's "colour games", which run so slow they are unplayable.
So I was looking for a phone with a mp3 capability and the only one I could find was the SL45, so I took my t100 to a phone shop and I swapped it for the SL45, the SL45 was a brand new one, the shop also gave me a device called IC35, which is a organiser device which controls the SL45 through infared....
I've had no problems with my SL45, it looks like you have just got bad look with that phone...

Both myself and my partner got SL45's and have also had nothing but trouble with both of them. All the same problems as you've said - it has poor coverage, it shuts down whenever it feel like it, the screen has also died (although as you said you're still able to call and receive calls). Also the screen - when it works - is more often than not scrambled. And most of the problems started within 2 months of taking the phone out of the box.
STAY AWAY FROM THIS ONE!!!

The built in MP3 player on this Siemens SL45 mobile phone is great. A full CD of music on your phone - excellent - and the headphones double as the hands free as well.
You can also use any .BMP image as your screen saver which is a nice touch.
On the down side, the operating system software is VERY SLOW. Do not get his phone is you like your text messaging - it will drive you nuts.
In all, i like it a lot as its got the MP3 player but as a general phone - i'd get a Nokia anyday!

Your review is obviously lacking in genuine knowledge of a mobile phone market and situations. Having worked in the industry for several years, and knowing enough about the technology of mobile phone to know that jumping on this so called "nokia bandwagon" is a fallacy and not the smartest move to make.
While I respect the right of free speech, and everyone has their own opinion, the fact that every nokia released is a cheap imitation of its predecessor, and sorely lacks imagination and the software to match is the a cold hard fact. Brands like siemens, philips, and panasonic seem to be the brands that lead in technology, nokia then comes along and produces a model, copying features with no luck. Percentage wise as a retail comm store, we see more nokias back with faults that any other brand. So the statement, "i would get a nokia any day" is a poor example to give any readers you may have. The siemens software is not slower, I have used many many models, and this statement is far from true

Hi there, I believe this review is highly unhelpful.
The reviewer makes no actual attempt at reviewing the phone, but only shares some bad experiences that are not in any way representative of the quality of this telephone.
I can speak from personal experience, I have had the Siemens SL45 ever since it came out almost 2 years ago. I have not had ANY problems with it whatsoever. I am extremely pleased. A couple of my friends also have this phone and have had little or no trouble with it in almost 2 years. So my dear friend, it looks like your company got a bad batch!
If you are indeed looking into Nokia telephone then you will be in more trouble than you think!!
Take my word for it, my fiancee works for them!
Written on: 19/12/2002
I experienced the same thing! My phone was only 6 months old before it started displaying 'card error' althought my boyfriends siemens sl45 was only six months before it was faulty. He has had two replaces, I have had one. The case also cracks too easily! I have dropped it twice only, while my old Ericsson mobile (5 yrs old still going strong!) has been dropped numerous times without cracking the case or damaging the mobile...
I don't think it's a bad batch, I think the quality of design and materials have gone downhill for Siemens. Too many people have bad siemens sl 45.

Well, from what I see in my old 3518. The sim slot is hold up with the back cover with the center piece. So, should you drop it once too often.... it gets loossy. Mine only gets the pop up "Card Error" only 1 day after the warranty gone, and it was sitting quietly on the table. Geez, what happend?

I'm having to take my Siemens SL45 phone back as the phone peeps all by itself in the middle of the night, crashes all the time and is as slow as my gran! Also, when it's dropped, the metal paint comes off and looks pants. Please let me know if its just me with these problems. Also it's too slow and not as good as nokia (read more)

When you say 'crash' do you mean a software 'Freeze' and you have to switch the phone off and on again to fix it?
If so, you are not alone. Mine has been back for repairs once (which took over 6 weeks with KJC) and is now doing it again now and then.
Otherwise I like the phone apart from the snail-like MP3 download time. But the menu system could be a touch more logical and the voice activation is very limited.
(My Psion is much faster download times by the way and thats serial too.)

Guys, it seems you are forgeting some aspects relating to the mobile phone world. First, the Siemens sl45 was the first mobile phone with mp3 and mmc (if i'm not mistaken). Just like cars of a new series (eg. v. golf iv), they all come with defects and problems (bugs) in the first year, so, it's not advisable to buy them when they come out (a question of time, I guess). Of course if you buy them you have waranty. In the other hand, you don't get a free upgrade to fix the mobile (it's not... (read more)

I have been a Nokia fan for years & have owned many different mobiles. This SL45 phone from Siemens looks cool & has some great features. The MP3 player is outstanding although it would benefit from a larger capacity multimedia card. The serial port connection for downloading tunes is a joke. Why didn't Siemens use a USB port? The unit is a bit of a "posers phone". Sure it looks great & has some features which are handy but it is let down badly by a very poor menu system, small multimedia... (read more)

I have always been a nokia fan until one week of owning an 8210. The screen failed.....rubbish.
I've now had my Siemens SL45 phone around 6 months. If you can live without being able to change the back/front it's got to be the best phone you could ever hope for.
Drag and drop loads of ringtones/logos to the phone from your pc in no time, and store as many as you want!!!
www.sl45.com is free and very easy.
mp3 player is as good as cd(around 6 songs)it doesn't take ages to do as someone has...

The SL45 from Siemens is the best phone ever, but buy a mulimedia card reader to connect to pc, makes mp3 files and ring tones so much faster to install, also use nokia graphics for screen, just copy examples from web sites and install from your pc, for free, same as ring tones install any for free (read more)

How can you say it is such a good phone and score it so low. You are either fooling around or contradicting what you say!

How long did you say you've had this phone?! Haven't you noticed the 32Mb MMC? you can save your sms messages to it! That's 1000's of txts you can save.

Maybe you haven't utilised the features the SL45 has. With its 32 MB memory card, you can store more messages on there than anyone could ever write.
