Good Points: The lyrics are sharp and clever, the guitar sound is great with some really tasteful and incisive lead breaks (check out "living on an island" and "me and howard hughes") plus the album includes three hit singles including the no 1 "Rat trap".
Bad Points: For me the only track which comes across as a bit of a "filler" is "Can't Stop" - it's fun fast but at the same time for me it was easy to forget.
General comments: Tonic for the Troops opens with "Like Clockwork" a jerky quick tense song which immediately drew my interest. The album moves on to "Blind Date" the lyrics of which are funny and clever. In my opinion there is not poor song on this album and overall at the end I felt I wanted to listen to it again just to see what I missed first time round. Humouress, intelligent, and at times quirky , for me it's one of the best New Wave albums available.
