Good Points: I think Jesse Jameson and the Golden Glow has some great characters in it. It's pacy and well written. The changeling idea is different, and Jesse's step-family are hilarious and evil!
Bad Points: I really can't think of any, except that the book ended too soon. Yes, it could have been longer.
General comments: Jesse Jameson is a girl-hero, with a difference. She can transform into any creature she can think of, but she doesn't know it to begin with. She sees her mum disappear into a woodland fairy ring, but her father and the police don't believe her. Her father falls in love with an ugly old hag, and Jesse is like their Cinderalla - she has to do all the family's chores. Her new step-sisters are vile and horrible to Jesse. One hilarious moment in the book is when they let out Jesse's pet hamster, and let their cat, Darth-V, chase it!
Jesse steps into the fairy ring herself and enters another world, where she tries to find her mum, with the help of some memerable and weird characters. Eventually, she discovers her locked in Dendrith the Witch's castle. Fantastic battles! Jesse discovers her transforming magic and ... well I won't spoil the end. It has an unusual twist. Great read.
