Good Points: Another great Oasis album!
Bad Points: Not as good as Morning Glory, unless you saw them live in 1997!!
General comments: I love this Oasis album, as I was lucky enough to hear it at its best - Live. Tickets for their Be Here Now 1997 tour were like gold dust, and I hung on to the phone for 2 days, constantly trying to get through to the ticket line. I was shocked, surprised, delighted, jumping for joy when I finally got through and managed to clinch tickets!!
The gig was fantastic. And not so well known back then, the supporting band were the great Travis.
Kicking off the gig they played the title track Be Here Now, and the whole place was jumping! We were fairly near the front, and the crush was, to say the least, breathtaking!! Terrified I was going to pass out, we managed to scramble our way further back, where we still had a fantastic view of the band, but not so close to be crushed!
The sound was excellent - great acoustics. Loud but perfect. As it should be.
On to the album!
This was the fastest selling album of all time, selling 423,000 copies on the first day of release, and over 1,000,000 in 2 weeks. In total 8,000,000 copies were sold worldwide, and it topped the charts in 28 different countries. Oasis were at the height of their career. The car in the pool is assumed to be a tribute to Keith Moon (The Who). There was a myth that Moon parked his Cadillac in the pool at a Holiday Inn during his 21st Birthday Celebrations. Not one of his better ideas? Or was it?!!
The tracks are as follows:
D'You Know What I Mean
My Big Mouth
Magic Pie
Stand By Me
I Hope, I Think, I Know
The Girl In The Dirty Shirt
Fade In-Out
Don't Go Away
Be Here Now
All Around The World
It's Getting Better (Man!)
All Around The World (Reprise)
