I love The Smiths. They were the soundtrack to my teenage years. Yet, something feels very wrong when the record company releases a compilation with no input from the band, which pretty much represents everything the band actually railed against in one of their own songs, notably, "Paint a Vulgar Picture" off Strangeways Here We Come.
While, if you don't know the Smiths, the songs on here will provide a great introduction to the wit and wisdom of Morrissey and the amazing guitar sounds of Johnny Marr, frankly, if you have a whit of integrity you'll buy a compilation of which the band approve - namely Hatful of Hollow or Louder Than Bombs or The World Won't Listen, all of which are magnificent. Or just buy the albums, because once you hear one Smiths song you'll want to hear them all.
