“simple mods for accurate gas gun”

Written on: 22/05/2012

I bought this single shot bolt action co2 pistol because I just love Crossman and its heritage (with Benjamin as well) I was informed of its high power output and liked the price which varies from £77 to £99. I dont agree that its high powered as co2 is so temperature sensitive in our current climate its hard to judge the muzzle velocity I would not use it for hunting or dispatch as it is advertised as being the rat buster pistol. I do like the recoiless shooting and with a silencer it is… Read Full Review

“lovely gun”

Written on: 21/11/2011 by kingtobias (5 reviews written)

I love crossman their guns stand for fun and quality, I own the 1377 and the 2240. I am amazed by the mods available and cant wait to mod the 2240.Straight from the carton the 2240 is small and light and fits the hand perfectly, the cocking mechanism is sure and secure as is the safety although its made from plastic. This gun is mighty powerful but is way too loud without a silencer. I got a silencer adaptor and with a silencer it is whisper quiet in fact all you can hear is the hammer and a… Read Full Review

if you can have only one air pistol, make it this one. The power is fine with more modifications available than you have money for. The rear sight sucks, its plastic which is ok, but the adj. is terrible, but once you do get sighted in, it stays that way. the trigger is fine and so is the noise level, I like the grips.
I get 45 strong shots per powerlet and can hit within 1" at 5 meters free hand, perfect for back yard bird feeders (starlings), you can't beat .22cal. for humane kills. This is… Read Full Review

Written on: 10/05/2008 by James Butler (18 reviews written)

Crosman folks know how to make good shooting cheap air pistols if my example is typical of this pistol. My example shots heavier pellet through my F1 chrony around 430fps and lighter pellets like Beeman Lazers around 475fps so it's safe to say Crosmans claims of 460fps are valid. At less than $60.00 this pistol is a real bargin. I am getting old and don't shoot pistols very often but after putting a few drops of yellow paint on the front and rear sights so I could see them properly I was able… Read Full Review

The Crosman 2240 Ratbuster is the best Co2 pistol in the world by a mile. Its not only a brilliant tool out the packet it has the largest modifying and custom/tuning following of any air pistol out there. The 2240 is a nice little popper for plinking and ridding your yard of pest. It works well on mice and small rats. It's not much for a one shot tree-rat kill but a well placed shot will bring them down out of a tree. Use the "PowerMax-HiPAC" to get all of the one shot kill power you need from the stock 2240. The "PowerMax" is a bulk-fill adaptor designed specially for the Crosman 2240. The "NO MOD" solution to Bulk-Fill.

I bought this gun with "modding" in mind. I read many reviews on a lot of pistols and picked this one based on availability of mods for it.
(The reason I wanted to Mod a pistol is that I love to target shoot and owning a "real" hand gun in Canada is very difficult.)
I actually LOVED this gun right out of the package! It shot accuratly , had good power, and felt well balanced in my hand. And the price!!! Wow!

I bought this to shoot vermin such as grey squirrels rats and small mustelids caught in live traps ,( they can bite through leather gloves !)It's also useful for knocking down crows etc in large cage traps It fulfils this job perfectly. It's light to carry around and easy to use. It looks good , though I'm not too keen on the plastic breech and grips but I'm told they can be modded . I got this Crosman 2240 pistol a week and a half ago. As soon as I pulled it out of the box I noticed it had a good heft to it. I put co2 in it and started shooting. I noticed it had a nice pop and a little bit of a jump to it. From about 10yards I hit a pop can every time. It goes all the way through a can and then some. It has been cold where I live and im not getting as many shots per co2 canister as I should. But I just hold my hand around the co2 tube. I noticed that once the co2 gets low… Read Full Review

Well, I bought one. Based on what I read here, it was a no brainer. Since childhood, I've have always leaned towards Crosman products. Now, later in life, the product is not nearly as well built as it used to be. Enter the Crosman 2240 CO2 pistol. I picked this up today for some general target shooting. Right out of the package it was shooting great. Adjusted the sights for windage to bring the shots left, and she was dead on. I use ammo which would not penitrate an animal's skin, and when I use my 2240 to scare them off from going after my pets, no physical harm will come to them. The Crosman 2240 is one of the best pistols out there. It's a single shot, bolt action co2 pistol. In stock form it produces velocities in the 460 fps range. While this may not seem like much, keep in mind that this is in .22 caliber. It is one of the only pistols that are capable of hunting. The greatest thing about this pistol, is that it is one of the most hopped up pistols on the market if not the most, and therefore, there are tons of upgrade parts for it.

Written on: 21/08/2007 by Seward (13 reviews written)

The Crosman 2240 is a accurate powerful gun. I don't think you will find a pistol as powerful in this price range - $80 CDN. There are others as fast as it but not as powerful because it shoots a heavier .22 cal pellet. The 2240 shoots a 14.3 gr. pellet at 460 fps = 6.72 foot pounds you may find other pellet pistols shoot as high as 523 fps but only in .177. A 7.9 gr .177 cal pellet going 525 fps has 4.84 foot pounds, that is a difference of 1.88 foot pounds or 38%. I would consider that… Read Full Review

I bought this pistol with the plan of modding it into something better. Ordered some hardwood target grips and polished the trigger sear. Compressed the trigger spring in vise and ended up with a smooth 2 pound trigger. Plastic breech worked ok, but will change to steel breech and extended bolt probe soon. There's one other thing worth mentioning, the Crosman service people are top notch. Nothing worse than to buy something and not get any support, that dosn't happen at Crosman's. I'm talking out of the box open sights hunting accuracy. Don't believe in scopes on pistols. To me, adding doo-dads like scopes and longer barrels with compensators and such, to a pistol takes away portability, the very reason I choose to carry a pistol, real or air.

The Crossman 2240 overall is a great gun. I paid $80's for mine (I live in Canada, everything is expensive) It's great for small game and pest animals. Especialy birds. However, I would not recommend it for gophers (Richardson ground squirrel.) It doesn't get the job done unless it's a head shot. I was once hunting for crows, what I mainly use it, for when a jackrabbit ran in front of me into a shrub about 10 meters away. I was close enough for a head shot. I have only had mine for a week, It was customized when I got it. I wanted to comment on the noise factor. Mine is very quiet, just a whoosh of air is all you hear.

How long is your barrel? It's loud with the regular 7.5 inch barrel because of the extra c02 escaping. With a longer barrel it quiets down a lot and you gain a significant amount of velocity.

I didn't buy my Crosman 2240 to modify or to turn into a rifle (for that I got a 2250). My first thought was to have an air gun on hand I could carry into the backyard at night with the CO2 in the chamber, but not pierced. We have had some trouble with rabid skunks in the area and being in town a Rimfire .22 is out of the question, and a springer could take longer to ready (though I'm now considering an HW45).

Right out of the box this is a reliable, accurate, and powerful pistol. If you want… Read Full Review

The Crosman 2240 are very versatile , there are so many mods that you can do to them, you can make them to a rifle and a carbine . There are power mods, accuracy mods and custom parts that you can add to the gun (just like the other 22xx and 17xx guns that Crosman makes). The power is nice for a $55.00 gun but if you are a power nut it leaves more to want, which is where the modifcations come into play. Just because these guns are in 22.cal does not mean that this is the only cal that you can… Read Full Review

I purchased the Crosman 2240 from my local Canadian Tire store for around 80 dollars. I have put around 500 rounds threw it and I love it. It is very accurate, and powerful, shoots around 430 fps with Crosman pointed, could be used for small game(very small game). I get around 40-50 shots per co2 which is reasonable considering it's power, and it's .22. Also this is such a simple gun, very easy to modify, or take apart. Only bad point it's loud, but by putting a longer barrel on it you can… Read Full Review

I've have my Crosman 2240 for a couple of years now, both the "Ratcatcher" rifle and this pistol version. Both are the same, just a longer barrel on the rifle version.

Great shooters with sufficient power, but watch out for those cheap plastic sights and the even cheaper plastic breech assembly. Replace those ASAP (its seems odd that Crosman makes the replacement parts -- why not just make them standard and charge a little extra in the beginning?)

Good accuracy straight out of the box. For… Read Full Review

I just bought this Crosman 2240 on Jan 28 2005. Out of the box is so exciting since the price is so good. First test the power on a piece of wood and it's not bad at all. The barrel was a bit loose but no big deal tighten them up and so the rest of visible screws while I'm at it. Now adjusting the rear side at 10 meters. This is a bit of pain since it's not a precision setting adjustment well it took 20 minutes with the help of my Predator Shooting Rest. Once it is set bullseye on a paper… Read Full Review

How is the power compared to Diana and HW45? 2240 is a .22 so I assume it should be pretty close.
What happend when you shot at wood; how far did the pellet go in. (compared to the other two)

It depends on what MOD's you want to do to it. Most people just get a new barrel from Crosman. The 2240, 2250 and 2260 are all interchangable. Call Crosman to get the parts sent directly to you.

There are a few small machine shops on the internet that will sell you custom parts, like steel breech, and will modify the gun for you, like opening the valve and port, trigger job, etc.
IF they allow the above links, this should get you started. A simple "Google" search for Crosman 2240 Airgun Mods or some derivation would get you what you need.

I just bought another two 2240 since I like this gun very much and very very cheap in price. I'm still overwhelming with the performance of this gun. The reason I bought two more is because 1 will be mod. All the way with custom stock like a 2250 rifle, and 1 will be mod 2250 as a handgun, and the other one will stay as stock.

Hi Hotsky,
Power comparison with HW45 .22 is very very close. The Diana P5 magnum .177 has 140 fps more than the two, so I can imagine if the Diana would have been .22 would still be about 90 fps more. One thing to keep in mind that the price different is like night and day. Also 2240 is a lot easier to cock but it costs more pershot. This week I will buy two more and they will be modified. All the mod parts will arrived by the end of this week.

I have had my Crosman 2240 for about 7 months. This is a true diamond in the rough and anyone with minimum skills can quickly and easily modify it to fit their needs.

I found the 2240 unmodified to be a very adequate gun for target and plinking. My only complaints are the sights and it's noise. Like so many pistols, the sights are garbage. If I had not put a scope on it, the first thing I would have done is made new ones. The noise is something I just have to live with although it has quieted… Read Full Review

I can under stand the enjoyment of upgrading a gun but, you can get almost the same gun with a 2250XT at www.pyramydair.com for far less money than you probably spent. Again I can understand stand the pride in improving some thing yourself, I just think if some one wants a carbine they would be better of buying a carbine than upgrading a pistol. I got this pistol because I wanted a pistol I even plan on upgrading it but I will keep in a pistol.

I get this comment from a lot of people. What they are missing is that this is our hobby. We take a cheap pistol and mod it into something different. There is an entire cottage industry out there of guys who are making after market products for these guns. I created a web site dedicated to them at Airgun Artisans.

With that said...what you say is valid...there are lots of different...and better airgun rifles out there. But there is a real joy in taking something like the 2240 and turning it into something different.

I bought the Crosman 2240 about 6 weeks ago. But since I got it I have completely changed it. I put a 24 inch Crosman 2260 barrel on it, The shoulder accessory, A BSA scope, trigger laser, and silencer. I put these things on the day I got it. I'm shooting around 600 fps because of the long barrel. with the same amount of shots in a co2 cartridge. I have had the Crosman 2240 pistol since Dec 25 2003. Basically, this is a very strong pistol that can become a nice target shooter or bird hunter (yum.. partridge!) Small enough for me to take out fishing in case I see an eating bird.
I fixed the heavy trigger simply by clipping off some of the spring, its much better now.
I really do find the iron sights to be rubbish and recommend a scope to fix it.
