Wilco, Being There Review - This is my favourite Wilco album. It's a double CD of brilliant alt-country/rock/stuff that rewards repeated listening. Wilco have not fallen into the double-album trap of using filler and below-par songs to bolster the better tracks. Here, everything works. There's such a broad range that it's quite easy (and indeed advisable) to find the songs you like immediately, play them over and over, and then go back to give the others a chance. Misunderstood merges the discordant and messy with the sublime. Monday is like the song the Stones never did. Red-Eyed and Blue is beautiful and bleary. Outta Site (Outta Mind) and its partner track show Wilco's cleverness in giving us two versions of the same song, and both are great. You'll travel the decades when you listen to Being There, yet it'll seem like you've never been away. Listen, go on!
