Good Points: cheap to buy insure and run. Looks good if you stick to the 3 door. Loads of cabin and boot space. Engine quick for 1.6, perfect for long journeys.good handling
Bad Points: Its a common car
General comments: My Vauxhall Astra was broken when i bought it didnt realse until i was driving home with it. Aparently the previous owner ran the car with no oil. Problem was fixed and payed for by the garage i bought the car from. All is well now.

I love my Astra, it handles well, very smooth, sticks to the road, not too powerful, unless you ram your foot down!

Vauxhall Astra is a very reliable family car with wider driving view. It runs smooth as expected and has a large boot. Overall body style is outstanding. Back view of the car is stunning. As we all know, 'The back view of a car speaks fot itself'.

If you want a car that will fault on you after about 25000m buy the Astra SXi twinport. This fault is not just with my car. Do your homework and research what I have advised and you will see there is a lot of people in the same boat stuck with a car they cant trust and cant re-sell.

Astra 1.6 16V SXI 2003 0verview.
I brought my Astra from a local Ford dealership after intending intially to buy a Mondeo however the Astra caught my eye on the forecourt and after a quick test drive opted for it as I liked its looks and handling.
I've had the car for a year now and apart from a minor warning lamp fault on the dash display coming on and then going off every now and then its been fine.
Driving the car it feels nimble in town traffic with light steering and handling though ...

Fantastic - if you are thinking about it, stop - just go do it. I did and I didn't regret it even when I could have saved the money for something else.
If you can GET IT NEW then you will have 3 years of peaceful driving and servicing that cost next to squat - it's worth it, believe you me.

The Vauxhall Astra 1.6 SXi overall is good and ideal for a small family. It is well built and the fuel economy is not too bad 35 to 40 to the gallon. You get a lot of car for your money. The car looks quite sporty as standard and is very spacious. Very reliable as it is 4 years old.

A big improvement over the last model. The ride is very solid without being hard. The roadholding is excellent. The engine has plenty of power for a 1.6ltr.
Mine cost me £7,000 and I am still in awe of it. One year later, excellent value, no faults, just love driving it!

Just completed a test drive in what will be my 'new' Vauxhall Astra SXi 1.6 16v and still have a gremlinish grin in my face!
Found the gear changing a little gritty, but the car isn't even a year old and only has 9.6K on the clock, so I'll give it time before bleating.
I'm only 5ft and was easily able to get comfortable in the driver's seat. Pedal reach is easy and steering wheel adjustment helps loads too. Leg room is plenty comfortable even for a 6ft man. Enough space in the back for adu ...

I really enjoyed my Vauxhall Astra 1.6 Sxi overall, what suprised me the most was the handling and steering which was much better than any vauxhall of the past by far. The car was also very quiet and refined, all the controls are well laid out and the quality is pretty good too.
Vauxhall engines have always been good and this is no exeption, I had the 1.6 16v and it was very smooth and strong, economy was pretty good too averaging around 40 mpg.
On the negative side the interior styling was a ...

I've had my Vauxhall Astra 1.6 SXi Family Car for 2 weeks now, its a 54 plate and has the sports seats and the sports bodykit which makes it stand out from the standard SXI. The handling is outstanding from the 16" alloys and lotus suspension, The performance from the 1.6 TWINPORT engine is brilliant.
Motorway driving is brilliant as it still accelerates hard but is still quiet and smooth.
There is loads of leg room in the car, the seats are very comfortable and it also has a lot of boot spa ...

Got this Vauxhall Astra 1.6 SXi family car after wanting one for ages, I waited until the right one came along. Definately not disapointed! Very fast, especially on motorway, excellent pick-up at high speeds. This car is a great looker too, I chose the three door as its more sporty, but its not for a boy racer. GGGGrrrreeeaattttt!

I have black 3 door 1.6 Y plate Vauxhall Astra 1.6 SXi. Unfortunately no alloys but am looking to uprgrade soon. I have had only one problem and that was with the passenger seat angle adjustment. Vauxhall charged me £50 for the privalage of fixing it though!
Generally a great car though, sporty and can do the MPG if your careful and not right foot heavy. May be better in the 1.8? Previous car a VW golf 2.0 GTI, and I would say the performances are compareable. Can't imagine that the 1.6 ...

I've just bought a W reg Vauxhall Astra 1.6 SXi after wanting one for a while now. I opted for a 3 door for the stiffer suspension and reduced body flex (the 5 door feels pretty wobbly, and slow).
It's a great car and the performance is better than most other cars in the class, 0-60 is booked at 10.5 sec but I think that's a bit conservative. It's at its best on motorways where the pick up is pretty amazing. Handling is incredible, it sticks to the road better than any car I've been in - spor ...

I've had my Vauxhall Astra 1.6 SXi just over 6 months now, bought at 6 months old with 7k on it for just over £8k!
I can't praise Vauxhall enough for bringing this car to the market, it's basically an SRi with a smaller engine and MUCH cheaper insurance.
The chassis is just about the best FWD chassis I've ever encountered (including the Civic Type R), it's so well balanced and confidence inspiring, the grip from the 205/45/16's fitted as standard is awesome. Direction change is crisp and ...
