I think it's a great little car, the performance is not bad. I drive most of the time around town and the mpg is about 28. I have yet to take it on a long drive so can't comment. The only bad thing is the seats, I like them to recline a bit quicker.

I bought my Vauxhall Astra 1.6 SXi from new in 2002 after driving a Corsa for 5 years and have never regretted it. I have two kids and there is plenty of room for the whole family in this car. Running costs are brilliant and I still have the same exhaust system which I think is remarkable. Tyres lasted up to 33000 miles. Insurance and servicing costs are cheap and petrol consumption is OK. The engine is smooth and road handling assured.
In short, I will regret the day I hand my Vauxhall Astra ov ...- Read Guest's review (123 words)

I upgraded my Corsa to the Mark 4 Astra SXI 1.6 as my family grew. I bought the Astra new in 2002 and I have not been disappointed with it in all that time. The car is economical to run, servicing and general running costs are better than average. To note, I have the original exhaust system on the car which I think is remarkable. The engine is quiet and assured and the road handling is pretty good. Suspension and seats are comfortable and the amount of tyre wear is good. I got 33,000 miles out o ...- Read ManicMarius's review (166 words)

The Vauxhall Astra 1.6 SXi drives lovely if you dont rip the hell out of it! I have an astra 1.6 sxi ecu tuned to about 130bhp. very nippy little thing. have left 1.8 new vectra on traffic light races. very reliable car. get about 50 miles a gallon, which is awsome. Brakes tend to squeek after a good thrashing.- Read Guest's review (56 words)

i have a 1.6 135BHP ecu tuned sxi astra. its a 53 plate(last sxi made on the mark 4 shape). goes very fast for a 1.6. also very practical. if you are looking for a very cheap car which is fast this is the one to go for. astras are very reliable and cheap to run/tax/insure.

Had Vauxhalls for last 10 years I now have Astra SXI, bought brand new and never worked properly. First time it went back to the garage with intermittent starting problems it was 2 weeks old it is now 2 1/2 and still breaks down on me. I ' m often late picking up children get stuck in car parks then go over my time limit and have to explain to the help desk at the car park. Taken it to 3 garages and they have not been able to help the car, they have replaced ECU, immobiliser, some other car bits ...- Read finchley38's review (117 words)

Vauxhall Astra is a very reliable family car with wider driving view. It runs smooth as expected and has a large boot. Overall body style is outstanding. Back view of the car is stunning. As we all know, 'The back view of a car speaks fot itself'.- Read bukky1298's review (71 words)

If you want a car that will fault on you after about 25000m buy the Astra SXi twinport. This fault is not just with my car. Do your homework and research what I have advised and you will see there is a lot of people in the same boat stuck with a car they cant trust and cant re-sell.- Read monkey69's review (268 words)

Astra 1.6 16V SXI 2003 0verview.
I brought my Astra from a local Ford dealership after intending intially to buy a Mondeo however the Astra caught my eye on the forecourt and after a quick test drive opted for it as I liked its looks and handling.
I've had the car for a year now and apart from a minor warning lamp fault on the dash display coming on and then going off every now and then its been fine.
Driving the car it feels nimble in town traffic with light steering and handling though ...- Read Ivanski's review (411 words)

Fantastic - if you are thinking about it, stop - just go do it. I did and I didn't regret it even when I could have saved the money for something else.
If you can GET IT NEW then you will have 3 years of peaceful driving and servicing that cost next to squat - it's worth it, believe you me.- Read dante187's review (185 words)

The Vauxhall Astra 1.6 SXi overall is good and ideal for a small family. It is well built and the fuel economy is not too bad 35 to 40 to the gallon. You get a lot of car for your money. The car looks quite sporty as standard and is very spacious. Very reliable as it is 4 years old.- Read pauld6's review (89 words)

A big improvement over the last model. The ride is very solid without being hard. The roadholding is excellent. The engine has plenty of power for a 1.6ltr.
Mine cost me £7,000 and I am still in awe of it. One year later, excellent value, no faults, just love driving it!- Read dhubbard's review (64 words)

Just completed a test drive in what will be my 'new' Vauxhall Astra SXi 1.6 16v and still have a gremlinish grin in my face!
Found the gear changing a little gritty, but the car isn't even a year old and only has 9.6K on the clock, so I'll give it time before bleating.
I'm only 5ft and was easily able to get comfortable in the driver's seat. Pedal reach is easy and steering wheel adjustment helps loads too. Leg room is plenty comfortable even for a 6ft man. Enough space in the back for adu ...- Read Kathy Tee's review (137 words and 1 comment)
