The 8250 is a load of rubbish it is a complete waste of money and your best of buying a piece of card board and cutting out a phone shape. It would work better than the 8250. The only high light is the blue screen. The rest is a load of crud and words can not explain my disappointment in this phone. Nokia has really lowered there standards on this phone.

The 8250 is pretty cute. This phone is not so expensive, it's only 100$. The screen savers are horible but you can change them with a data cable used for decoding the phone.

I extremely agree that 3315 is a lot better than 8250 and it is a lot cheaper too. Basically, buying a 8250 is the same as buying for its looks not functionality.

My experience with the nokia 8250 so far has been nothing but a nightmare. I got the phone at the beginning of the month and within 2 weeks i had to send it back to get fixed. They returned the phone to me after a week but the new phone was also no good with no reception and locking up. I am still waiting to get it back. I would NOT recommend this phone to anyone.

Very disappointed with my Nokia 8250 phone. Phone locks, vibration alert stoped working. Have my 8250 at Nokia care centre for over 10 days. They can't get parts and don't know when parts are coming so I'm left without my phone. They will not replace the phone-rather will upgrade to refurbished 8850 but don't know when the rehacked 8850 will come in. Very unhappy with Nokia, for not answering my calls.

The phone is not even meant to be available in this country.
It is made for asia only. I think you are lucky to be getting offered a replacement phone at all.

When I bought a walkman from singapore, I had to take it back to get it fixed. I have family out there so it wasn't too bad, but if that had been my trip of a lifetime as some people do I wouldn't have been happy at all.

It is a cool phone and it's a shame that it's not been released here :(

I posted review earlier today - scrolling through other reviews it seems that there is something endemic to the Australian version in that every lousy review noticed is from Australia...!
This leads me to conclude that it is software failure glitches than the hardware itself.

Nokia should be offering upgrades at no cost to overcome clearly disatisfied Australian customers but don't hold your breath waiting for that to happen - Nokia support is abysmal

Hi. I live in Australia and the Nokia 8250 is available here quite readily. Originally, the phona was made for Asia only but due to the high demand in Asia, Nokia altered the phone for use in many other countries, including Australia.

It would have been good if more detail could have been given on why he was not happy with the 8310 compared to the 8210.

Has anyone been able to solve the lock-up situation? I just bought one the other day from a friend in China, and mine doesn't just lock up once a day, it keeps locking up after I've pressed maybe 10 buttons! Annoying beyond reason.

written by SeanCF. on 27/09/2001

I had heard that this model had a problem with locking up, but this seemed to have been overcome, with people with older versions having the option to upgrade their phones software to overcome the problem. Not true. I just bought one (with V 3.20, 29-05-01 internal software) and EVERY day it locks up! I plan to take the unit back and get it replaced with another one, but I wonder if I should just go for another model...?

True, I just got mine on the 28th of September. Ver 3.20, and version date in may 2001, exactly the same as yours. Locked up quite often too. But I also noticed that those batches that are produced in 08/01 suffer from weak ringtone volume, like mine.. :(

Update on my phone: I have it on good account that many 8250 phones do lock up, and I think I have found the cause of it. Make sure you keep ringtones reasonably short! Other Nokia phones do not handle ringtones which are too long very well, and the Nokia 8250 apparently even worse. People who upload their own ringtones (using the IrDA port) usually convert these over from MIDI files, not bothering to truncate them. From my experimentation it seems to me that the phone truncates them, but will then crash (usually once a day). If you replace the ring tones which are too long with shortened versions, the lock ups stops. I have replaced all mine and have not had the phone lock up once since! This is a widespread problem, so if you are experiencing lock-ups heed the above carefully!

I've had a Nokia 8250 for three months now and the fone has only ever locked up twice :) unlike all my other fones which used to do it all the time.

Written on: 29/09/2001

Just thought I would post an update to this. I went to the state repair centre and they told me I indeed do have the latest internal software, and recommended I exchange the handset for a new one, which I did... and it also locks up. I feel like such an idiot, my brother warned me that he had heard from numerous people that they had a problem with their Nokia 8250 locking up. I figured the latest version of the internal software would overcome such problems. Oops.

I am now hoping that it is something specific which I might overcome. Maybe remove all custom ringtones? Maybe don't use a screen saver? Maybe turn it off once a day? If anyone has any ideas I (and Dallas) are completely open to suggestions!

NEW PURCHASERS BE WARY OF THIS PHONE!

A bit of a harsh review this I think - extremely unhelpful and seemingly biased.

I won't criticise Ericsson - they are great phones, but functional rather than attractive I feel. However, I don't think that anybody could fail to find any good points on the Nokia 8250 regardless. It's a fantastic little phone. Really funky.

I suggest in future you take the reviews seriously to try and help other people who may be thinking of buying this phone. Complete criticism and bias seldom helps.

I have both used Ericsson and read many reviews. For the poster to claim that Ericssson beats out Nokia and that Nokia has no good points is a discredit to herself (himself?).

Ericsson is well-known by those that have used it, that it is Ford Pinto of the industry. Functional, but not "choice" equipment. (I wouldn't doubt that the poster was an Ericsson employee.)
