Good Points: Nice selection, reliable, discounts.

    Bad Points: Charge for delivery.

General comments: Student Book World is yet another site which lists books at discount prices! Despite the name this isn't a site solely for students as there are children's books and general fiction to be found here as well. In fact, the site claims to have over 1 million titles to browse (actually they claim 250,000 in one place and a million in another, but who's counting? ;o) so there's a good chance of finding what you're looking for.

The name does suggest that it would be a good place for students to check out and that is certainly true. The section on 'textbooks' is well stocked with new books at reduced prices and let's be honest, the way student funding is going right now we need all the spare cash we can get right?? You'll certainly find some good prices here, it's always worth shopping around of course, but this is a good starting point. Typical savings on paperbacks seem to be around £1.50 per title, whilst hardback and textbooks varies but usually amounts to a few quid off the title.

Delivery here isn't free unfortunately(boooo!) but it is a fixed price so if you can order a number of books at once(perhaps club together with a few others in your dorm) then it's easy to make it negligable. Delivery inside the UK is £2.95 which seems pretty standard and naturally more for the rest of Europe and more again further afield. Check the help section of the site for more details.

You can pay for good either by a secure online transaction or they also take postal cheques or telephone orders - all the details are on the site.

Items are dispatched within 24 hours if they're in stock or you're given an approximation if they're out of stock. In stock items are expected to arrive with 3 days which is pretty standard.

Overall, you can find books here cheaper than the publishing price...what more do you want? Of course, I'd advise shopping around anyway(kelkoo.com is a great price comparison site to try for starters) as often you'll find them cheaper still elsewhere anyway but this is a good starting point and I've never had a problem with their service.
