Good Points: None.
Bad Points: Do not explain things clearly enough.
General comments: I recently received my renewal notice from Elephant car insurance and it had risen considerably so I hunted around for another quote. The cheapest I could find was Diamond. Earlier this year while parked, I was hit by a car, not a lot of damage only a scratch on the bumper. The other party involved did not want to claim on their insurance policy as it was a minor scratch, so they settled privately. I reported the incident to Elephant even though no claim was made on either parties insurance policy, just to cover myself if the other party did not settle. As a result of this Elephant wanted to charge an extra £150 on my policy. Even if either party involved does not make a claim on their insurance policy, the information given goes onto a database at Elephant and they charge you extra ( £150 per annum) ludicrous! My advice go to a company who do not penalise clients if an accident is reported to them and the parties involved do not make a claim on their insurance policy, I have!

I have used Elephant for several years, my wife and I both have a policy. Our Saab had the roof slashed a couple of years ago, repaired without any hassle. Last year we lost our car in the floods, again no problems; we had the payout within two weeks.
Unfortunately the car on the other policy was set subject to an arson attack at Christmas time; again absolutely no problems, received the payout. I am surprised at other peoples experiences here!

My lawfully parked 1 month old car was hit by a bus which did not stop. The driver and bus company were identified and they admitted full liability. Elephant's legal team dealt with the claim, and the bus company paid for everything. No NCB was lost, no liability was placed on me for the accident, the bus driver was prosecuted for failing to stop after an accident, and then my renewal came - up from £425 to £850, for a blameless incident!

I needed a window replaced but Elephant made no effort to help when three different glass repair companies could not come out and fix my window. I had to drive my windowless car all the way home in the rain and wait a week for a repairer to replace the window. I feel Elephant simply dont care.

My dealing with Elephant Car Insurance was good, although there is a small clause in the policy which means if you have an accident they CANCEL your policy and if you pay monthly, they will take the remaining months premiums out of your settlement. Effectively I paid for 12 months insurance and got 4.
Also the extra courtesy car option-don't bother. They cancel your car hire 2 days after you receive your cheque - NOT 2 WORKING days, from receipt. I got mine on a Saturday and this doesn't even al ...

After a car accident that rendered my car beyond repair. They did get an engineer to look at the car and deem it BER. After that the longest stream of delaying tactics in the book. Even the most unrelated queeries were dragged out of the woodwork. At the end of the day, Accident + Fully Comp = settlement as with other insurance companies that all seem to try and settle in 5 days its been 5 months now! If you want to replace your car after an accident do not Insure with Elephant. My advice is do ...

Penalty premium when adding points to existing policy at Elephant Car Insurance.
Online quote difference £75, but when you have existing policy and are a "captive" £205 fee. Outrageous behaviour that should be illegal if it isn't already. Telephone handler admitted it was a "punitive" fee - honesty is not the best policy with Elephant.

House got burgled while we were on holiday and the car stolen.
Submitted claim for the car to Elephant. I got a nice letter back 10 days later saying that my claim investigator is 'XXX' and giving a contact number. I have lost count of the number of times I have called and left messages for him. He does not ring back, if he even exists!!
You can however get hold of other people in the office, but only by calling the premium rate number.
They sent someone round to interview me. He said he h ...

My policy was due for renewal on January 7th, so i received the letter in December asking me if i wanted to renew, i decided not too so i cancelled there and then and returned my certificate of motor insurance. Imagine my surprise when i received my bank statement through today telling me I had £700 pounds taken out of my account on the 12th of January! I don't usually look at my statements so I probably wouldn't have noticed it, but i telephoned them straight away they have promised me ...

I had just turned 18 when i took out the insurance and elephant insured me for half the price of any other quotes. It was all running fine until elephant rung me to say they couldn't take the money from the bank. the agent asked me to confirm the bank details they should have, i confirmed these and thought everything was fine until i again got a letter the next month saying they couldn't take a payment again. I called them and was advised the agent that asked me to confirm the details had actua ...

This has to be one of the worse insurers on the market today. They have tried to say that some of the damage to my vehicle was not caused due to the accident and they refuse to pay for this.Slow processing of claim. They have asked for additional information, additional assessment of the damage, additional photos of where the accident took place and then a further technical "expert" witness report

My personal advice to anyone would be DO NOT BUY INSURANCE FROM ELEPHANT.CO.UK. A man crashed into my car at 2am one Sunday morning around 10 weeks ago, the police attended and the man was taken away in an ambulance. I was asleep and my car parked legally on the road. As a result of the accident my car had only 3 wheels attached to it, and was pushed in to two other cars. I asked that the vehicle be removed from the road as it was unquestionably not roadworthy, and as a result, illegal to kee ...

Someone reversed into the door of my old cherished 17 y.o. Merecedes . The other party admitted liabliliy, so I phoned Elephant. The car was still driveable - the door still opened. After examination, Albany phoned me stating the car was a total loss (category D) - I said I was happy to keep the car, forget the salvage value and fit a new door from the breakers. However, my insurance had been cancelled some 10 hours previously, so I had 2 days without insurance. I am unhappy as it was a no-fa ...

My 4 week old VW Golf GT was hit by a bus whilst it was lawfully parked (how unlucky is that?). The bus company admitted full 100% liability and Elephants legal team wanted it to go through Elephant as a claim on my policy, and for them to claim it back (with a hefty fee for their troubles). Got my car repaired by a main VW approved workshop (to protect my warranties) after much arguing with Elephant about not using one of their approved repairers.
I had a letter from Elephant telling me that ...

Been with Elephant several years now, never had to contact them, they just re-charge my card every year with the insurance premium.
Got a new car and looked at other companies, they asked for points in the last 5 years and after looking at my license I realised I had 3 from just under 5 years.
Rang up Elephant, they asked the same question and I blurted out that I had points from just under 5 years ago. I was put on hold and about a minute later told that I had to pay over £200 for the ...

A deer ran out in the road and took out most of the front of my car. As the car was only 6 months old I was very anxious to get it fixed. I was assured my car would be looked at within 2 days and a quote given by their approved garage. 7 days later no quote and no courtesy car, even tough I'd paid the extra premium to get one! Their garage became verbally abusive and I was told by Elephant I could take my car to my main dealer for repair. Their approved garage refused to return my car, even ...

I am a young male driver and have been with Elephant for 3 years. Their prices have continuously knocked all competition out of the water, year on year. I had to make a claim a couple of years back (I rear shunted another car- my fault), they were very kind and efficient.
I have called their UK (Wales) based customer service centre a number of times over the years and am always pleasantly surprised- no waiting in queues, and excellent friendly, helpful and efficient customer service.

I used Elephant for several years and was perfectly satisfied with them until I had to make a claim! A tree collapsed onto my car and, for the first time in 20 years, I had to claim on my own insurance. Despite their authorised repairer initially stating that the car was repairable (the damage was minor cosmetic) Elephant subsequently decided to write the car off.
But worse, they gave us no notice whatsoever, not a courtesy call, nothing: A letter dropped onto the mat, on a Friday before a ba ...
