Have been with elephant for a few years with no problems, then 2 months ago changed my car and notified them, cost me £80 for the new car for the remainder of my policy, they took the money but did not send me through insurance certificate for new car. 2 months later policy is up for renewal and phoned elephant to see what they can do only to be told that they had already started a new policy for me and taken my first instalment which had gone up massively from last year. 1. ever changing premiums- started at $100 a month and last bll i recieved before cancelling was $287 a month, and with no accidents, tickets, etc.. 2. HORRIBLE customer service- I tried calling for weeks to figure things on why my billing had changed to no avail. No one had an anser and the UW department would never answer. 3. I don't have time to write everything that happened, but they were all well and good while everything was going smooth. I had each monthly installment and was driving fine. I was involved in an accident that wasn't my fault, and the third party driver agreed. The police said they would take down as many details as possible for me to help me fight my case, and the other driver was helpful and did the same. This company are a complete joke, they did not send me a renewal letter so i decided to go elsewhere as i had already had an unpleasant experience with them so was more than happy to move on. Came to cancel my insurance on the last day of that months cover so i would not have to pay for another months insurance however i was told i had to pay 65 quid to cancel it. When we questioned this and spoke to a supervisor they changed it and said it was only 45. We paid this and now a month later we get a letter saying that we owe money and have been ignoring previous attempts to contact us. They cancelled my insurance because i apparently missed a payment (I didn't, and I had proof on a bank statement but that was no good)but neglected to tell me that it was cancelled until a fortnight later!!! I just changed my house and moved 2 blocks from where I was living. When I updated my address on Elephant they said I will have to pay GBP 80 for 2 months remaining on my policy for the change of address. If you have a spare 4 hours of your life to wait on hold listening to repetitive classical music then elephant are the company for you. After an initial phone call to renew my existing policy and 20 minutes on the phone, I discovered that my policy was incorrect with the wrong excess and monthly payments. On the phone they made it clear I would be paying £750, I then paid £750 on the phone then within the next could of days without notice took out an extra £100 for hidden charges that I was not made aware of! Been with Elephant for 2 years and last renewal went smoothly. This year we have come to renew again and getting in touch with them has been like trying to walk on water. I have found their premiums to be really competitive, their staff friendly and their customer service very good. I used to be insurance by elephant from 2011 to 2012, shortly before my policy was due to be expired I was contacted by them via letters offering a re newal price to which I thought was over priced so I ignored them. I went on to discover a policy at hasting which was £200 less so I went with Hastings. I had the same problem with Admiral, (I believe Elephant are the same company). If you are leaving any insurance company make sure that it is put in writing and send to the insurer before the contract ends because if not they will automatically renew the policy, I managed to get my money back but only after a lot of heated phone conversations and after I agreed to a hefty charge for cancelling the policy.

Ok, im leaving a review after reading all the bad ones! Elephant is one of the cheapest insurance company in the UK. I have been with them now for two 10 month periods. Quicker NCD. Never had a issue. If you pop a parent on the insurance it drops it by about 2-400. Im paying around £350 now for a Seat Arosa 1.0. My gripe is that the first that I knew about my motor insurance being renewed, was the £500 bill on my bank statement. Most insurance companies automatically do this, but inform you beforehand by letter and/or email that your policy is up for renewal. Not here! No letter, no email, no reminder. They misold me insurance by telling me that my son as a named driver on my vehicle would accrue a 1 years no claims bonus. A year later when i went to insure my son and asked for confirmation of one year no claims bonus they said i could only use it if i was insuring with elephant or sister companies. I have only had a positive experience with Elephant really. I had an accident where somebody went into the back of me. Elephant sorted it quickly, got me a courtesy car and were helpful and in full contact all the way through the process. I ensured with this company in Nov 11 on a 10 months policy and paid £1610 with my wife on the policy. I reported to incidents in Jan 12 and May 12 as someone hit my car twice and dented the car ( i reported this to them so no one makes a fake claim against them). I've been with these guys out of sheer laziness. Every year they try to put my premiums up despite the fact I have never had an accident or made a claim. Every time I rang up to change my address they'd whack on a £30 admin fee (It's like having to pay a £10 for someone to scan your stuff through a checkout at asda). I have only been with this insurance company for about 4 months and unfortunately I had a car accident. The first girl I spoke to about the incident was very understanding and helpful. I sent all evidence over to them the day after and heard nothing for 5 days so I contacted them myself. Been with Elephant and Admiral (sister companies) for over 10 years, apart from one or two breaks when another compnay beat there price. I've had 3 claims with them in that 10 years, 2 my fault and 1 not my fault. In all 3 claims the service was excellent, dealt with UK call centre and claims handlers and got top quality service throughout. Nothing was too much trouble. I have never had any problems with Elephant, i've been with them a year and now my mum dad and brother have all moved to Elephant due to the service I received. They have always given me a great price on my insurance. I used these guys because they were cheapest on the comparison site I used. I paid for the whole year in one go and didn't come accross any hidden fees. I have never had to claim so I can't comment on that. It would seem that most of the super angry bad revewis are as a result of having problems claiming!
