Good Points: The is a very standard jazz album. Diana does some wonderful interpretations of some oldies. I especially like Gentle Rain. She really captures the mood and essence of the song. I commend Diana for not making this a sleazy album about sex and all. The scenes she pictures are mature and in good taste. How refreshing!
Bad Points: The fact that I said that the album is standard jazz is just the problem. Whether by choice or recommendation of her record company, the album is too safe which is tragic when one thinks what it could have been. Furthermore some of the melodies does not add to the intended atmosphere of the album. When I saw the title: Love Scenes, I immediately thought of mellow, bosso nova, bitter sweet melodies, slow dancing and walks down long beaches. If only more attention were given to the melodies...and more personal touches of Diana (which I know she has plenty of), this album would have been better.
General comments: Diana Krall, Love Scenes is a good album. Diana's voice is crisp and captivating. You want to listen to her even though you feel the album could have included more originality. I do recommend this album only for die hard Diana fans.
