The battery on the Siemens M35 is always running out! It comes with a 550maH nicad, replace it with a £15 1350maH Lithium-Ion battery from Eurobatteries instead for super-duper battery life and you can also use the old one as backup.
As a phone to talk with it can't be beat - strong, reliable, you can drop it and it doesn't smash into a thousand bits of plastic and it doesn't feel like it came out of a Kinder Egg or have dubious styling.
A current bargin as far as armoured mobiles go.

i just bought my simens m35 mobile phone just this november to get rid of my old nokia phone, ive been through a lot of phones such as trium mars, motorola nokia 3210 and philips ozeo but then when i purchased this simens m35 the hell i care about other phones.i love its feature and the look,it really fits my lifestyle as a student and a swimmer for its splash proof or even water proof. for 5 minutes.i tried if this phone is really water proof..droped in a glass of water and observed..when i pulled it out of the water.it is still functioning as it was, thoug water is leaking from the lower part.hehehehehe i really love this because of the wap enable but sometimes its slow wen u use wap cause its network reliabale phone.but then if nokia phones are made for style look again style, function, durability and connection.its all in one phone...the 8210s are for charlies angels while the nokia 8850 is known as the james bond of all phone.well step aside for siemens m35 is the lara croft of all phones.i really love my phone.

I found that the Siemens M35 is an easy and managable phone. It is a good size and shape and can fit into your bag or pocket easily. However there isn't a wide choice of ringtones, and it is hard to find accessories.

This phone is strong, i bought it second hand with quite a few knocks, scratches etc. The previous owner once cleaned it in white spirit....the phone survived all this and is still going strong. It's a VERY good phone, will last you a life time and also looks good. The only bad thing i can say is the vibrate is too weak, so weak in fact it's pointless. Also reception aint too brilliant.

Very solid :I dropped this phone few times and it's working like the first day. Good reception: i compared once with some Nokia's of some friends and they didn't have signal but I did. Frankly, I was surprised because I knew Nokia as a good phone maker. I have the phone from more than 2 years and until now only 3 or 4 times has some strange behaviours (I guess some minor software bugs).Fortunately those behaviours were temporary. One of my friends bought same phone few moths a go but he has problems with the phone. I think Siemens didn't keep up the same quality level all the time. Too bad.

It is a handy little thing to use. keep your phone out of the rain otherwise the battery goes really dodgy.

1st thing to do when getting this Siemens M35 mobile phone is to get rid of the standard battery and buy a Lithium ion battery. Fixes all battery/battery meter issues.
The SMS message bank is too small. I always have to be deleting old messages to make space for new. The received SMS messages are not keeped in order so sometimes I have to read all of them to find the last one that was received. I can't have a seperate car charger, and hands free kit plugged in at the same time as they use the same plug. This is a bad design. If these issues were fixed it would be a great phone.

The Siemens M35 is a great mobile phone except for the battery. But if you are recharging it every night everything will be ok. Great for careless people unlike these small nokias.

The Siemens M35 is a nice mobile phone and very reliable. It has many features like WAP, organizer, alarm, chronometer, currency converter, etc. It has good reception and sound quality and it is really a tough phone. My only complaint is the phone's NiMH battery which could be better.

If you want a mobile phone that can be used in any conditions, that you don't see with everyone, buy this Siemens M35!

I bought my Siemens M35 mobile phone because it isn't a nokia, the whole planet uses a nokia.

I was looking for an inexpensive mobile, with all the mod cons, without much success, and then I found the Siemens M35 mobile phone - what a gem.
I am very happy with it.

The M35 from Siemens is a good mobile phone. One major bad point: THE RING TONES
written by Rob. on 07/02/2002
The M35 from Siemens is a great value phone, with all needed features. Battery going flat without any audio warning is my only gripe.
written by Richard Jewell. on 22/01/2002
The M35 from Siemens is a great little phone in general, costing only £69. This is approximately half what the similar sized and specced Nokia 3310 costs!
Menus are generally fairly easy once you are used to them but I find the lack of a proper daily alarm clock annoying and the existing alarm a right pain to use. Games, logo and ringtone provision a bit dismal but this doesn't worry me too much because i'm older than 13 years!
My major gripe is poor battery life. I'm a averaging 2.5 days between charges with no calls made/taken and just a few seconds of the alarm sounding each morning. My old NEC was managing 8 days in similar use before it expired!
On balance, great value for money, reasonably well specced phone, that fits unobtrusively in the pocket. Can't ask for more that that at the excellent price.

Overall the M35 from Siemens is a good phone. I wouldn't like to part with this type. If only i could get the electricals fixed so it wouldn't keep freezing on certain screens i would be very happy. But i highly rate this phone anyway and think it is brilliant

Tough, but not extremely tough
Well, this phone is something special. It is some kind of a hybrid between a professional phone that may suit business users, with a wide range of features such as a calendar, WAP, 14.4 modem and more. It has features which will satisfy teenagers and younger users as well; games, predictive text input, et cetera.
The phone's biggest feature is its extra toughness, however. It should be able to withstand daily wear and tear without problems: rain, dropping it, dust, mud. However, it
will not withstand immersion in water. But who wants to take a swim with a phone?
Quality:
When I first bought the phone, it felt like the best quality phone ever. However, I have had quality problems with this phone. The first M35 I had lasted just for one day before its internal antenna probably jumped loose from its socket, since it was losing all reception. I got it replaced immediately in the store with no struggle at all. The second M35 I had lasted for half a year. Then the earpiece started to sound muffled and coarse. This time it was sent out for repair and I was without a phone for 4 weeks. After this time, I got it replaced. However, I am giving Siemens another chance here. Factory faults can occur in all brands of phones. I guess that I was just unlucky.
Hardware:
A moderate amount of power is required to press the keys, which may appear irritating to some people. But still, they work well, so I should not be complaining. In fact, it feels nice to press them, they are made of rubber! The high-res 4 row display works well too. But the backlight could have been stronger, and the top line is occasionally in shadow. Sound quality from the earpiece range from fair to good depending on what voice the person you are talking to has. I have never had a problem listening to what the other person is saying, but it seems the sound is missing the mid-high frequency band, or something. Outgoing quality is world class. The phone seems to keep a lock on the GSM signal pretty well. Now for something weird. If you only let the phone lie idle in your pocket, it can last for well over a week - which is very good. However, as soon as you start "playing" with the phone, i.e playing games, setting calendar, writing SMS, talking, etc. standby life dramatically disminishes. Which I'd call not good. I've had a moderately used phone only last as long as 2-3 days. You can talk in it for 3-4 hours constantly before the standard NiMH battery is flat. Included charger works well. There is even a battery discharge feature in the phone enabling you to pump out the battery before charging it so that its life dramatically extends. The phone weighs 130g which must be considered light for an outdoor phone.
Features:
The M35 has a great deal of features. Calendar, T9 SMS, modem, clock, timer, WAP (which you can read HTML with too!), profiles, games, ring tone composer and a whole lot of other stuff. I guess you won't get disappointed. But some things are not designed very well, i.e setting an alarm takes longer than it could have taken. I would actually like to have seen a voice dial feature. After all, this is an outdoor phone. Tapping in a number on a keypad can be hard with thick gloves. Alarm clock does its job, as well the as timer/stopwatch. Calendar is fine, allowing you to set appointments weekly, daily, monthly, yearly or once. Great for keeping i.e a class schedule or anything similiar.
Final words:
A tough phone which will satisfy most users. It's not perfect - but very good, and a great deal considering its low cost - $140 today.

Tobias,
<br>This is a very good, fair review of the M35. I agree with your findings on all the points you mention.
<br>Please ignore my comments about the alarm in my review which follows this one. You clearly mention the alarm situation above.
<br>I should have read this review first...

Re: M35 menus can be navigated by numerical position. (pressing corresponding keypad numbers). Thank you for this tip, Tobias. This has made a considerable difference to my opinion of the phone in general. It is, indeed, a shame it's not documented in the user manuals. I'm amazed I didn't try this out myself as other mobiles have the same feature!
<br>
<br>Regards,

I bought this Siemens M35 phone because it was different from all the Nokias everyone else was getting and is WAP ready. Unfortunately the service isn't available here yet.. not even fax services! I've found it to be reliable although I do have issues with it's antenna sensitivity and battery life using the standard 500mah battery. Otherwise it's fine.
