great guitar, beautiful finish. plays well, excellent action and sustain. i've done a side by side sound comparison with a '72 gibson les paul, and other than overall output level(that gibson was LOUD!) the tonal qualities were remarkably similar. HOWEVER. the electronics blow. my pickup switch doesn't work properly in the middle position, neither do the volume knobs, so something is miswired, though i can't see what it is. first thing on my agenda is to replace all the guts with some quality gear. other than that, yahoo!

I got this guitar 2 weeks ago and irs pretty awesome. the only problem is that the volume/tone knobs are all bent and the nut on the input jack keeps coming off which questions the craftmanship. overall i dont really care about that because it sounds great and looks awesome. if you ever get one get the plus model with a vintage cherryburst finish.

I have played a few guitars in my, albeit very short, time (I'm 16). I have been playing for 8 years, and have played my fair share of guitars. The Epiphone Les Paul Standard stands out for me, among others, because of its relative inexpensiveness, but the quality-for-money value that is immediately apparent after you open the box. The sounds is great, pickups don't pack as much of a punch as the Gibson, but they're great. Finish is superb, I would expect it to last for a long time. Tuning seems to be a minor issue on some Epi LP's; after time, some minor tuning adjustments may need to be made, although this can be rectified by buying Grover tuners. Overall a very good guitar, a great substitute for those who want the Les Paul tone but not the price tag of a Gibson. The Epiphone would make a great intermediate-level guitar, maybe even advanced, before you move on to the Gibson (if you so choose). Even the Epiphone Special guitars (lower range) are good quality, so here you have a bargain with everything you would expect from a Les Paul, right down to the insane variety of sounds that can be made adjusting tone and volume. Great for blues, jazz, rock, metal, country and more. Keep on rocking!

2004 chinese les paul standard honey burst despite initial teething problems i love this guitar ive owned plenty of guitars over the years from gibson, fender, prs to squire and encore . Sounds as good as any of its expensive cousins good action and playability excellent for staying in tune even on the d and g strings even a gibson can have tuning problems with these strings

The Les Paul Standard has quick reaction time and has a very clean tone. I am an owner of a Ephinone Les Paul Standard and it is one of my favorite guitars.

Nice guitar, very good sounding pickups and good feeling neck. Would recommend highly to people that want a Les Paul but without the price tag!

I was given an Epiphone Les Paul as a gift a good few years ago, while that one has long since broken, my main guitar has always been a Les Paul... I think it is safe to say I am hooked...

The monstrous sustain on this thing is amazing. It's got brilliant sound and is very hard to stop playing!!!
The quality of it is just superb, the mahogany body goes for that real smooth and attractive appearance. For people who go for both lead guitar AND rhythm guitar, this is the one for you. ...I don't think there is any bad points...

Over the years there have been some inconistances in the build coming from Epi. Different hardware, truss rod covers, internal routing making some heavier than others. Mine come heavy, 9 lbs, 'standard' truss rod cover label, Grover tunners, bad fret job. However, I play for fun, Zepp + Lizzy, and can only blame any problems on my lack of skill. I would ideally like a 'Gibson Classic Antique' with the '57 pu's, but that's a dream. Mine is 3 yrs old and as good as new, no failures in hardware or electrics. I don't thrash it but even so you get the feeling it will last forever. If, like me you can't afford a Gibson then this is the next best thing. I would never consider playing anything else other than a Les Paul.
Tip, buy from a large reputable dealer, where advice is not driven by finance.

Good guitar. It's not a Gibson Les Paul .But for a third of the price. Great.Plays great. Looks great..Could use a little more punch, but nothing a swap out for EMG pick ups wouldn't fix. Overall I play it professionally and it gets the job done. I've got better vintage guitars but I love this Epi. Play it. I think it has what most guitar players are looking for. Good playability, sound and most importantly affordability.

If you have the money to buy a Gison Les Paul, you would not be reading this review anyway, so any prospective Epiphone buyers, read on. I have heard that earlier models of this guitar were not as good as the new ones. I have a 2007 model and I must tell you, it is really really nice for the price. It was only $499 US dollars and it plays like it should have cost $1,500. I comes with grover tuners and some decent sounding alnico humbuckers. I am planning on swapping out the pickups with some EMG's I have, but the original pickups are not bad. A friend of mine came over recently and brough his $7K custom made Gibson over. We both plugged up to my Marshall half stack and the Epi sounded better. I am not even joking. It was richer, had better tonal qualities and also stayed in tune. He had to keep tuning his D string on his expensive Gibson. If you want a Paul and cannot afford Gibson prices, buy this one. I recommend you play it first though because each one is set up differently.

Although not the real deal (I once owned a Gibson Les Paul custom), this guitar is well worth what I paid for it, and it doesn't give me backache due to its weight.

great Gibson sound for low epiphone price.

I got mine of eBay for 180 quid, which is not bad considering it is about £250 at most other places.
The Epiphone Les Paul Standard electric guitar sounds really good through a Marshall amp.

I have done a little investigating, but I can't find out why the Epiphone Les Paul Standard has Gibson on the truss rod cover, rather than Epiphone. As I said, I picked it up cheap and without any history from a Pawn Brokers (second, third, or fourth hand?). Does this mean it's old? Or new? Either way I won't be parted with it, and my Telecaster and Firebird are getting dusty.

My guitar teacher has one but he hasn't played it in a while, i think he's kinda mad at it for some reason. I think im gonna get one or a peavey SC-1. They're both really cool guitars, im just tryin to find one thats not to expensive, but sounds good in every song i play.
